Our summer campaign is underway, and we want to invite you to support Gateway Nature Preserve with a one-time donation, recurring donation, or a membership! We are so excited to announce that we are working on building a trail system in the meadow area of the preserve. We have been working on preparing the site by clearing invasive plants, picking up garbage, and getting the site ready for construction. Our progress would not be possible without the tireless work from volunteers, donors, and our board. The new meadow trail system will link to our new birding platform, and further our mission of connecting people to nature by providing an additional space where the community can enjoy flora and fauna up close. We are extremely excited to have new trails to host new educational and exploratory events for our community. Your contribution will go towards paying for construction of the meadow trail system. Our campaign goal is $10,000 and every donation makes a significant impact and ensures the sustainability of Gateway Nature Preserve for generations to come. We want to send a special thank you to Boy Scouts Troop 749. On May 11th, Parker Rauschenberg and Scout Troop 749, sponsored by Ardmore United Methodist Church, completed a series of projects at the Pollinator Garden. The main element was the installation of a guardrail adjacent to the Broad Street bridge to ensure the safety of pedestrians and Gateway visitors. The troop also installed two benches in the pollinator garden for visitors to enjoy the views of the garden. Additionally, weeding and maintenance of the garden also took place. We greatly appreciate Parker and the troop for their hard work and their collaboration with Gateway.

Have you visited Gateway’s Forest Discovery Trail? The FDT is approximately half a mile long; it takes you through the woods on the hillside next to the Salem Creek Greenway. With more than 20 native tree species and wildflowers, the area provides habitat to birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects. Its trees also protect water and air quality: Trees’ leaves take up carbon dioxide through photosynthesis, and their roots absorb rainwater, reducing flooding and erosion into Salem Creek. So, embark on a forest adventure today and visit our trail! We have new educational signage along the path where you can learn more about the plants and animals that live here.
