Congratulations to Cathy Tucker, RN who received our most recent Daisy Award! Cathy is highly regarded by both our patients and her colleagues. This is what her nominator had to say about her:
"Cathy is not only an excellent nurse but also a great team collaborator. She is always bringing in candy for the nurses and steps up to keep the unit clean. Cathy always helps nurses with their patients. She is a great role model."

The Diseases Attacking the Immune System (DAISY) Foundation was formed in November 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of an autoimmune disease at the age of 33. The Barnes family were deeply touched by the kind and compassionate nursing care Patrick received they established the DAISY Award in Patrick’s honor and memory.

Each year the Massachusetts Paul Coverdell Stroke Systems of Care Collaborative hosts an award ceremony to recognize participants’ achievements in meeting quality of care benchmarks and participation requirements during calendar year 2023. This year, DPH announced that Saint Vincent Hospital is the recipient of the following Coverdell awards:
o Door to Needle less than or equal to 60 minutes from arrival for at least 90% of stroke patients
o Increase in Pre-notification Award recognizes hospitals with a greater than 5% increase compared to prior year in the percentage of stroke patients who had advanced notification to the hospital by EMS calling a “Stroke Alert”

This is a true testament to our stroke team’s efforts throughout the year to participate in Coverdell trainings and for their ongoing commitment to improving the quality of care provided to stroke patients.

We proudly announce our “Daisy Award” recipient as Christopher Curran, RN, of 33 South Inpatient Unit.

Saint Vincent Hospital Daisy Award Committee organized the surprise award ceremony where some of Chris’ colleagues joined to recognize him with this honorable national recognition.

Chris is highly regarded by both patients and co-workers. A grateful patient who nominated him writes:

“Christopher is my amazing nurse today. He is very caring, supportive, a great teacher, and explained about some of the medicine I have to be on, how they interact. He explained everything to me. He listened to my needs and made sure I was OK. I don't usually tell many people about my past but because of my past I don't ever feel safe outside my home. Chris made me feel safe and comfortable. He made sure or tried his hardest to get my pain under control. He’s a very good nurse. Very good soul, person, and amazing nurse. There are no words to describe how overwhelmed with caring I am.”

The Diseases Attacking the Immune System (DAISY) Foundation was formed in November 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of an autoimmune disease at the age of 33. The Barnes family were deeply touched by the kind and compassionate nursing care Patrick received throughout his many hospitalizations and established the DAISY award in Patrick’s honor and memory.

Congratulations to Linda Zigmont from our Patient Transport department who has been honored by Tenet Healthcare as part of its annual Tenet Heroes recognition program. A Tenet Heroes award winner exemplifies a commitment to delivering high-quality care, fostering innovation, promoting collaboration, and leaving a lasting impact on our communities. This person consistently surpass expectations, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to go above and beyond for those we serve. Here is some of her glowing nomination:

Linda is the first “smiling face” visitors and patients see when entering the hospital. She is one of our best employees who always goes beyond her job duties to serve our customers. People approach her asking questions, looking for directions, or requesting assistance in getting to their destination, which usually involves Linda getting a wheelchair herself or calling a transport colleague. Linda is always happy to oblige. She greets each individual with compassion and warmth, and is always ready to assist.

Linda’s customer service skills are exemplary. She is one of the friendliest people that I know. She arrives to work with a smile on her face and a cheerful greeting for our patients, visitors and her co-workers. Always motivated and positively engaged, she serves as a true inspiration. We are very fortunate to have Linda as the "face of our organization."

As part of the Patient Transport Department, Linda assists visitors and patients as they enter SVH on 3 North. She and is an exceptional employee. Linda takes it upon herself to ensure a positive experience for all those who enter the hospital’s door. She is deeply committed, detail-oriented, and organized. Linda is our local expert and an extremely effective multi-tasker. She possesses all the exceptional qualities of a first rate concierge.

We conducted a “Pop-a-Shot” basket tournament where our employees competed to see who could get the most baskets in one minute’s time. Marcus Johnson from the Linen Dept. won the tournament with 18 baskets. Worcester North High School basketball coach Al Pettway joined us in the celebration and competed in the tournament. As part of our Annual ‘Healthy Over Hungry’ Cereal Drive held over the last two weeks, employees at Saint Vincent supported the Worcester County Food Bank by donating 356 pounds of cereal products for families and children in need over the summer.

To add some fun to this year’s Cereal Drive, we held a Blindfolded Cereal Tasting contest, where team members tried to guess what cereal they tasted. There was also a word search contest with hidden cereal-related terms and a “Wear Celtics Gear Friday” where employees could wear Celtics gear in support of them being in the NBA Finals.

This annual initiative helps further our mission of improving the health and well-being of those we serve and aims to help those struggling with hunger, especially children.
