We are sad to inform you of the passing of Sr. Teresa Dermody, who taught at SBHS for a combined 20 years. Many alums may remember her as a math teacher from 1961 - 1966. She returned to SBHS in 1990 as a math teacher and Campus Minister and continued to serve our school in these roles, as well as school librarian until 2006. Her wake and funeral will take place on January 2nd at Mt. St. Vincent Convent. Please visit https://scny.org/in-memoriam-sister-teresa-dermody/ for more details.
Thank you for your generosity this year! Your gifts make an impact in the lives of deserving young women.

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Joan A. Laredo-Liddell. After her retirement she regularly attended our annual Alumnae Luncheon and continued to support our school in many ways. May she rest in peace.

SAINT BARNABAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS RECEIVE BRONX CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AWARDS!
Bronx, NY – April 3, 2023 – Saint Barnabas High School (SBHS) Seniors Katrina Rancier and Olivia Campbell were each awarded $1,500 scholarships at the annual Bronx Chamber of Commerce Women of Distinction Luncheon on Friday, March 31st.
Katrina’s scholarship was graciously sponsored by KZA Realty and presented by KZA President Kathy Zamechansky, a former SBHS Board Member. Olivia’s scholarship was kindly presented by Barbara Selensky, Director of Marketing for Woodlawn Cemetery and Conservatory, which sponsored the award. Ms. Selensky is a proud Saint Barnabas Alumna.
Both recipients of the scholarships are finalizing which colleges they will be attending in the fall. In order to compete for the scholarships, the young women were interviewed by a Committee of Bronx Chamber of Commerce Members. SBHS students’ achievements and interviews were found exemplary by the Committee.
Katrina and Olivia are very appreciative of being selected for these wonderful scholarships and are looking forward to their college experiences.
SAINT BARNABAS HIGH SCHOOL CAREER DAY 2023-CELEBRATING WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH!
April 1, 2023 – Bronx, NY -- Saint Barnabas High School (SBHS) hosted seven successful career women on March 30th to round out Women’s History month. The panelists represented careers in education, mental health, law, law enforcement, animation/video production, and nursing. Junior and Senior PeerForward leaders prepared questions for the panelists about their fields of work and their advice for students as they contemplate future careers.
The student body was attentive as these professionals shared their experiences and provided general advice for students as they pursue their future goals. Legal Assistant Blerina Bako instructed students, “Don’t just think about the ‘now’, think about how it will affect your future”. Each panelist encouraged having a plan – it can always be modified along the way - but having a plan and end goal will lead to a successful future.
Career Day allowed SBHS students to learn first-hand about a variety of opportunities for young women today – some more traditional and others that might not have been considered.
SBHS Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Elizabeth Saporito commented, “Our students are always open to hearing about careers and often broaden their interest in a particular field because of these panel discussions. We are most grateful to all the panelists who graciously participated in our 2023 Career Day.”

The St. Barnabas High School rolled out the red carpet on Thursday, March 16th for the Knoxville Catholic High School choir.
It was an evening of top-shelf music and songs for both choirs. Barnabas talent included a piano and a fiddle soloist. In addition to vocal soloists, there was a rousing rendition of He Reigns by JJ Hairston and Hallelujah, Salvation and Glory which was conducted by one of its choir directors, Dionne Robinson.
The 26-member Knoxville High School choir was invited to St. Barnabas High School as they made a tour of New York City this week and its environs during their spring recess. Some of their other stops included singing at St. Patrick's Cathedral and at St. Francis of Assisi Church which is located on West 31st Street. The Knoxville Catholic High School choir, led by Phil Holloway, performed an eclectic mix from an African choir song Bonse Aba, a Latin choir song, as well as having an individual soloist sing a traditional Nat Cole tune Orange Colored Sky.
Sharon Traditi, one of the Barnabas choir directors, called it a "choir symposium that was flawless which filled the St. Barnabas auditorium with sweet ear candy."
JUST ANNOUNCED:
