It is time to take a BREAK 🏖🥂🥳
I hope you all get time off work, have precious time with family and friends, and do everything you love and enjoy. Have a few lazy days, read, paint, play board games, indulge in that soft serve or braaibroodjie, share stories and memories with your loved ones, and give your nervous system the rest it needs!
I can not end this post without giving thanks to my Heavenly Father for a healthy and successful year. He keeps me strong and able to fulfill my passion, to work with you lovely people daily. Thank you, Lord!
I'm now officially on leave and will be back at the practice on the 8th of January.
Dr Michael Abramson, an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in foot and ankle surgery, is now in private practice at Mediclinic Cape Town. He performs arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery and has extensive experience in sport injuries and foot and ankle reconstruction.
Dr Abramson, a graduate of the University of Cape Town (UCT), won best international speaker at the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) conference in 2019 and his work has been published in the Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery. 12 days post surgery, I had a follow-up appointment with Dr North. During this appointment, he did the following:
● discussed what he did in surgery while he showed me the intra-operative images. On the images you can see the before and after of the cartilage flap behind my patella and a more central chondral lesion.
● checked my wounds and removed the stitches
● discussed my rehab process - the different time frames for return to functional fitness, cycling, swimming and running. We also discussed what high impact exercises I should rather substitute in the future to prevent further cartilage damage.
● recommended that I go for PRP injections, which I will start in August on both knees (3 injections, 2 weeks apart). He does this in his rooms.
