We are bursting with pride to announce that one of our very own, Dr. Leigh Gordon, has been selected by the Frderation of International Hockey (FIH) as a member of the officiating team at the Paris Olympics in 2024. 🏑🏆

Dr. Gordon's personal background in , as well as her years of experience in general sports medicine, will make her a great asset to the medical team in Paris next year. 🇿🇦🗼

This weekend doctor .a.deklerk took part in the Advanced Intermediate Care in Rugby course with doctor .gordon.98 present as a course instructor. The trauma course covers essential topics like , spinal injuries and a general approach to trauma. spreading awareness of proper management of emergencies in one weekend at a time!

Five heads are better than one! Dr .gordon.98 and Prof. sharing thoughts and smiles with colleagues at last weekend's event in Pretoria. Prof. Swart and Dr. Gordon were both present to share their insights on biomechanics and concussion, respectively.

Meet one of our guest speakers: Dr. .Gordon.98

Dr. .Gordon.98 is a Sports & Exercise Medicine physician who has studied extensively, both locally and overseas. She is very busy as the team doctor for the Rugby men’s and women’s teams since 2015. Dr. Gordon is the Medical trainer for Immediate Care in Rugby as well as the Medical Officer for the federation. She is one of the three founding partners at , in Cape Town, South Africa.

We are privileged to host Prof. & Dr. Leigh Gordon: Two experts in sports concussion recognition, treatment, and rehabilitation who will explain to us what happens in the brain when you suffer a concussion, the 11 R’s, and the latest in treatment. They will also answer your questions on concussion. This will be the first in our women’s sports medicine series of webinars.

Dr. David de Klerk(.a.deklerk) was born in Cape Town and completed his medical studies at the University of Cape Town in 2016.

His passions include cycling, running and triathlon. He started cycling at the age of 13 and spent 3 years at a competitive level riding for Toyota Super Cycling and MTN before starting medical school. Amongst others, he has taken part in the SA National Road and Time Trial Cycling Championships, the National U16 and Junior Cycling Tours, the Comrades Marathon, the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, the Venice Marathon and Ironman 70.3! 🏊‍♂️🚴🏃🏽💪🏽

After completion of his internship and community service as a doctor, he returned to the University of Cape Town where he is currently specialising in sports medicine. His special academic interests include altitude training and coaching science.
Outside of his time at Cape Sports Medicine, David works primarily as a team doctor on UAE Team Emirates () travelling with the cycling team to their many events in and around Europe. He also works with Science to Sport() at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa where he assists with coaching of athletes, cycling biomechanics assessments and performance testing.

Growing up in Cape Town and finishing her studies at UCT in 2004, Dr Lynelle Hoeks () has always had a love for sport and the outdoors 🏃🏼‍♀️🌵🌊🚴🏼‍♀️

She has spent time in both government hospital emergency rooms and private practice, and is now completing her specialization as a sports physician through UCT and working at Cape Sports Medicine.
An avid trail runner, road runner, yogi, horse-rider and surfer she feels incredibly lucky to be able to combine her lifestyle and work interests in the sports medicine field. Her academic interests lie within training, nutrition and the GIT, the young sports person and exercise as medicine.

Outside of Cape Sports Medicine Lynelle spends much of her week assisting in theatre in Orthopedics, Plastics and General surgery, as well as running her own practice doing GP house calls (). She is mom to two boys who keep her on her toes, her fridge empty, and looking for adventures on the weekends!
