Madiba Day is celebrated on July 18th each year in honour of Nelson Mandela's birthday. It is a day dedicated to promoting positive change and making a difference in the lives of others, where people are encouraged to devote 67 minutes of their time to acts of goodwill, representing the 67 years Mandela spent fighting for social justice.

In the last 2 months, over 150 "Jars of Joy" have been donated across South Africa. This project started by collecting empty jam, coffee, and mayo jars - filling it with soup mix, and distributing them along the tour routes of our travel partners, but we soon realise we needed much more jars than we could collect.
Then, our tour water bottle supplier had the solution for us: why not reuse our plant-based water bottles. Fortis X provided us with specially-printed 'JOY JARS' made from bio"plastic" (entirely moulded from naturally occurring plant sugar found in harvested plant starch). We can now easily fill up to one hundred JOY JARS monthly with the help from the Hotspots2c & Africa Select Journeys staff. Our monthly "fill-a-jar lunch hour" is a fun get-together for our team too... we recently filled 96 bottles in under 55 minutes.
These jars of goodies (soup mix or sweet treats) are donated to community projects and charities along South Africa's tourism routes, and our partners distribute them to those in need. A special thanks to the Ubuntu Youth Club at Prรณjekt Ubuntu Community Projects, the Cherished - Community Support Program, our guides, and travellers for helping us get the jars to the community.
Thanks to all our local supporters, resellers, booking agents, guides, and suppliers who helped us collect the empty jars, and donate towards this project. Your empty jars are still needed, but we'll just supplement the batch with our bioplastic bottles when required.

In recent weeks, we've been on a heartwarming mission, spreading smiles and joy across children's hospitals nationwide, including a few in the Western Cape. Thanks to the amazing Zhara's Little Lamb Project, we've been handing out Zhara's adorable handmade little lambs and sponsored care and snack packs. The incredible support from this project has brought sheer delight to countless children. Seeing their faces light up as they cuddle their new woolly friends fills our hearts with warmth.
Our goal is to bring joy and smiles to children with cancer, and we're thrilled to share a heartfelt letter of appreciation from the Hospital Trust at the Red Cross Childrenโs Hospital, which is a testament to the positive impact of our project. You can read it at https://www.facebook.com/groups/zharaslittlelambs
A big shoutout to the teams at Hotspots2c & Africa Select Journeys (including their amazing tour guides and travellers' support) and also thanks to the supporters and volunteers that donate towards or knit beanies and crochet the cute little lambs for us to distribute. And also the dedicated hospital staff for their invaluable help in spreading happiness to these young kids.

Help transform communities one step at a time. We're always excited to deliver donations to the JBay Recycling Project's SwopShop with the help of Hotspots2c / Africa Select Journeys and their travellers. Together, we aim to donate more lace-up (winter) shoes for the upcoming wet and cold season. While we've delivered over 80 pairs of sandals over the summer, the children now need warmer shoes for winter.
Join us by donating pre-loved or new shoes or fund the initiative online at https://t.ly/donate-2-shoe-fund to help us keep the Swop Shop's shoe closet stocked.
Children in need (aged 3 to 17-years) rely on these essentials to stay in school. As always, Hotspots2C tours will help transport the donated shoes from Cape Town to JeffreysBay along their tour routes. Every shoe donated represents a step towards a more sustainable future for all.
If you'd like to personally get involved with this ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐โป๏ธ , feel free to contact [email protected] to arrange the delivery or postage of the shoes to our offices in Somerset West.
โป๏ธ The Swop-Shop concept incentives recycling; allowing children to earn 'mula' points by delivering recyclables weekly in exchange for essentials like toiletries, food, stationery, clothing, and shoes. What a fun and effective way to promote environmental responsibility, benefiting both the environment and the local community.

Once collected the Hotspots2c & Africa Select Journeys staff help fill these jars with either a soup mix or a sweet treat pudding mix. These jars of goodness then gets donated to charities along the routes their tours travel, and these partners will distribute it to individuals in need.
By repurposing the jars and filling them with heartwarming goodies, we aim to raise awareness, spark joy and make a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.
This past month over 50 jars have already been donated!
Thanks to all our local supporters, resellers & booking agents, guides and suppliers who helped us collect and donate their empty jars for this project. A special thanks to Never at Home - Green Point, Never at Home - Kloof Street, Avenue English.

The recent winds and heavy rainfall have caused significant damage across the Western Cape; leading to road closures and widespread disruption. A level 9 warning issued by the South African Weather Service underscores the severity of the situation.
Although most of the storm is over, unfortunately, Morkel Cottage Daycare has not been spared: one of the classrooms has suffered structural damage with roof sheets blown off and other debris scattered into the fencing posing safety risks to the children. While the local disaster management team has been in contacted with us, but we'd like to repair this damage as soon as possible so that these little ones can return to their normal learning activities.

This is super cute! The local school in the Overstand area often identify children experiencing difficulties in reading and then introduce them to a very talented lady with a compassionate heart and a profound love for kids, aiming to achieve gold-star reading reports. Laura Checci provides individual support to improve the kids' reading skills through extra private classes ("Leeshulp vir Gr2โs") in the afternoons. Some of these children stay in the nearby children's home, and many come from underprivileged backgrounds, lacking the necessary resources, time, and attention needed for success in reading and becoming true bookworms :)
The carefully-crafted soft toys donated act as special reminders to inspire and encourage these kids to practice their reading daily and overcome any reading obstacles they may face.
Thanks to those who made and donated these cute knitted toys! The kids absolutely love it! A special thanks to Hotspots2c who delivered this box of goodies on the recent Garden Route tour... The sheer magic of witnessing the sparkle in the kids' eyes as they opened the box was truly heartwarming!
