Tinashe - the nasal passages in cheetahs help with thermoregulation. During a high-speed chase, the increased airflow through the nose helps cool down their body, preventing overheating. The cheetah's panting after a chase also aids in cooling through evaporation.
Let's give a huge Thank You and applause for the amazing work our Field Rangers perform everyday, facing harsh weather conditions, crying tears of joy or grief without ever losing focus on their dedication and commitment towards species and biodiversity preservation. You're amazing!
Devastating news 😡
Debby - although Debby moved to the US, she is still actively involved in the LGD Program. Her contribution and dedication for more than 20 years to Cheetah Outreach will never be forgotten and is still highly appreciated.
Garland and Torres - enjoying their retirement at Cheetah Outreach after their important contribution to the Livestock Guarding Dog (LGD) Program placed in action by Cheetah Outreach Trust. As Ambassadors they play an important role in educating our visitors about Non-Lethal Methods to control the wild predators in farm areas.
Antonia - We would like to thank Antonia from Germany for her commitment to our cause for 6 weeks. It has been a pleasure working with you and your "selfies" :D . Best of luck for your university adventure. With heartfelt appreciation - Cheetah Outreach Team
Yoyo - Cheetah Outreach would like to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible time, effort, and dedication Yoyo have generously given to our cause. Your willingness to give 6 weeks of your time and energy demonstrates a profound sense of compassion and community spirit. Good luck for the future. With heartfelt appreciation - Cheetah Outreach Team
Cheetah Outreach would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the continued support of Royal Canin SA in providing essential nourishment for Garland, a remarkable Lady who deserves nothing less than exceptional care.🥰
Baggins - Servals frequently groom themselves to keep their fur clean and free from parasites, dirt, and debris. Their grooming process involves licking their fur with their rough tongues, which helps remove loose hair and contaminants.
Patrick - started volunteering at Cheetah Outreach when the program began in 1997 and over the years has given his Saturday to work at the facility despite a very busy career. Patrick is a small animal Handler and has a very close relationship with our meerkat. He is very involved in animal enrichment and spends time walking Scoop. Thank you for all the time and support you have given the program from the beginning.

Grace - Ear tufts/ markings are used for intraspecific communication: It is suspected that the prominent ear markings are used for intraspecific communication. When threatened, a caracal flicks, twists, and turns the ear.
We were so unfortunate to start off this week with one of our collared free roaming cheetah males that was shot over the weekend by a farmer who was doing predator control focussing on black backedjackal and then shooting the cheetah during night hunting. The farmer reported the incident as they were aware of the research we are doing on cheetahs in the area. We visited the farm to retrieve the satellite collar and the law enforcement officials from the Limpopo Provincial Conservation Authority took over the investigation
In 2022, Ashia Cheetah Conservation and Cheetah Outreach Trust , Stellenbosch University and Groningen University joined forces to provide a landscape-wide census about free roaming cheetah to allow for better communication about these cheetah between landowners and conservationists.
Farmers and people visiting farms where cheetahs still occur free roaming are urged to take part in the Free Roaming Cheetah Census and to complete the online survey at the following link :

Please support our conservation work by visiting www.cheetahoutreachtrust.co.za to find out how to support us.
We are in dire need of funding to purchase additional camera traps and satellite collars for use in the FRCC as well as for our farmer vs cheetah and other predator conflict mitigation work to prevent the lethal killing of cheetahs on farmland areas.
Romeo - Each cheetah has a unique pattern of spots, much like human fingerprints. No two cheetahs have exactly the same spot pattern, which can be used by researchers and conservationists to identify individual animals.
