If you're a runner, chances are you know the feeling of hobbling home looking like Quasimodo after straining a hamstring or pulling a calf muscle! In fact, 70% of runners suffer from an injury at some point in their lives. If you're having any trouble with recurring running injuries, come see Matt, our resident running enthusiast. He'll be happy to help you get back on your feet!
With our experience in personal training and exercise science, combined with our "modern hybrid approach to healthcare" we place a great emphasis on the development of our bodies capacity and strength.
This increase in strength allows us to create a 'buffering zone' to help build resilience to painful situations. This also decreases the likelihood of re-injury.
If injury reoccurrence is an issue you're familiar with, reach out and we will be happy to tell you more about how we can help.

We often say we take a "modern, hybrid approach to health care". But what does that really mean?
We blend a traditional, evidence informed health care model with a personal training style of health care. We are all trained in strength and conditioning principles and have invested a lot of time and effort into figuring out how to help our patients cross the gap that exists between where most treatment plans end and where most exercise programs begin. The blending of these styles means that we can seemlessly move from the treatment room to the gym floor in the same session and help you develop your physical health under our watchful eye and careful planning.
It also means that for those who wish to go beyond the standard rehab targets and shoot for more strength, fitness and health that we can work with them, one on one. We have patients who have been with us for 8+ years where the majority of their time spent with us has been on the gym floor, not in the treatment room. But because of our hybrid approach, we can jump back in the room if a new ache or pain has arisen.
We've been doing this for over 10 years and we're still working to be better, more effective and more valuable to you, our patients.
If you're interested in grabbing one of the very limited spots we have available for these sessions, or you would like to know more, then please feel free to DM, email or message us!
Thank you, Julie!

Helping our community heal and stay healthy for nearly 15 years!! 🏥🙌
The Geelong Physical Therapy Centre and it's previous iteration (Bay City Spinal and Sports) has been a pillar of support for Geelong residents looking to improve their health and wellbeing through it's hybrid allied health/personal training model for over 14 years now. WOW!! We're continually striving to provide worldclass and services to help our community overcome injuries, chronic pain and movement limitations so they can return to doing the things they love. Stumbling, learning and creating a facility and a team that can unite the science of healing with the art of helping is an ongoing and immensely rewarding journey. And we all feel like we are still only scratching the surface of what we can achieve!
If you or someone close to you could benefit from a fresh approach to pain and injury management, don't wait any longer. Get in touch today and let our compassionate team help you achieve your and goals.
Rubbing a sore or injured area is a common way to alleviate pain. But how does it work and should you pay someone to rub your boo-boo's?
There are a few different ways that rubbing a sore spot can help reduce pain. One way it helps is that it stimulates nerves that then cause the release of feel good hormones that helps to reduce your pain experience. Another mechanism is that it creates a bit of warmth which changes how the nerves in that area are working, making it harder for them to send their signal. A third mechanism is that we have little sensors that respond specifically to human contact. When triggered, these cause the release of another feel good hormone called oxytocin (otherwise known as the 'love hormone' or 'cuddle chemical').
Rubbing may also help to relax muscles that are tense or contracted, which can also help to reduce pain.
In general, rubbing is a safe and effective way to relieve pain, but do you need to pay someone to rub the painful area?? If pain relief is your only goal and you're unable to get relief on your own then a massage or manual therapy may be helpful. But if your goals are to address the reason why you have pain and to figure out how to prevent it from coming back then you're going to need someone who knows how to do that.
Thankfully, that's what we're the best at!! 😉
