THE PROTREAT CLINICAL SMART TRIAL FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF COVID-19 IN CANCER
Cancer patients are highly vulnerable and at risk of COVID-19 infection. NCIC along with the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre will be running a clinical trial specifically for cancer patients: preventing COVID-19 with a safe and well tolerated antivirus nose spray that has shown good results overseas against COVID-19; and treatment of moderate to severe COVID-19 with exciting new drugs developed right here in Melbourne, Australia. The SMART design of our study will mean that we will continually monitor the effects on cancer patients and most importantly will provide reassurance that we are doing everything we can to support them in their cancer fight.
