Dr Michael Haller is in AUS!

Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet researcher Dr Michael Haller (pictured centre) visited the Australia/New Zealand TrialNet Coordintating Centre at the The Royal Melbourne Hospital/Walter and Eliza Hall Institute this morning to share the results of the ATG-GCSF study in newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes.

The Two-year findings of this study confirmed continuation of the positive effects reported 1 year after the start of treatment:

* Low-dose Thymoglobulin preserved beta cell function and improved insulin production.
* Haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels were significantly lower (indicating better long-term blood glucose control) in people treated with low-dose Thymoglobulin alone and those treated with low-dose Thymoglobulin combined with Neulasta, when compared to placebo.
