HIIT vs. Cardio: The Workout Debate 😯
What type of exercise should you do? Spoiler alert = all of them (and especially exercise you enjoy)!
Cardio boosts heart health, strength training builds muscles and bone density, while flexibility exercises enhance mobility and reduce injury risk. Incorporating all three promotes overall fitness, ensuring a well-rounded and resilient body.
But – how should you work your cardiovascular system? A 2014 research study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine compared High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with traditional cardio (Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training, MICT).
The Findings:
HIIT significantly increases cardiorespiratory fitness by almost double compared to MICT in patients with lifestyle-induced chronic diseases.
But remember, everyone is different. At Physio Elements we believe in tailoring an exercise program for you.
Both HIIT and cardio have their merits—choose what you enjoy and can sustain over time.
‼️ Body Fact Alert ‼️
Did you know that synovial fluid inside your joints thrives on movement? This fluid acts like the body’s natural lubricant, nourishing and protecting your joints as you move.
The Power of Motion: Regular movement encourages the production and circulation of synovial fluid, helping to keep your joints healthy and lubricated. Whether it’s walking, stretching, or even gentle exercises, every motion counts!
Promote Joint Health: By staying active, you’re not just strengthening your muscles—you’re also giving your joints the love and care they need to function optimally.
Keep moving to keep those joints happy and healthy! Stay tuned for more body facts and wellness tips from our team at Physio Elements
Word of the Day: Taping
Derived from the Middle English word ‘tapen’ meaning ‘fasten or secure with strips of adhesive material’ taping has ancient origins - Ancient Greek and Roman physicians used cloth strips to support injured limbs, laying the groundwork for modern taping techniques!
Today, taping has evolved into a sophisticated tool in physiotherapy. Physiotherapists utilise adhesive tapes to provide support, stability, and relief to injured muscles and joints. Taping offers benefits such as reducing pain and swelling, improving joint function, and enhancing proprioception—the body’s awareness of its position in space.
Curious about how taping could benefit you? Our skilled physiotherapists at Physio Elements are here to provide personalised advice and guidance to support your rehabilitation journey. Stay tuned for more insights into physiotherapy!
Muscle 101: The Powerhouses of Your Body - Ever wondered what muscles are and why they matter? 💪🏼
Muscles are the engine behind every movement you make, from walking to waving hello! They’re made up of bundles of fibres that contract and relax to produce force.
Function: Muscles are responsible for generating movement, supporting posture, and stabilising joints. Whether you’re lifting weights or simply standing upright, your muscles are hard at work.
Benefits: Regular exercise strengthens muscles, improves endurance, and boosts metabolism. Strong muscles also help prevent injuries and support overall health and well-being. Curious to learn more about how to keep your muscles strong and healthy? Stay tuned for tips and insights from our team at Physio Elements.
Lifestyle Tip: Take a Minute to Breathe Every Day 🧘🏼♀️
In our busy lives, it’s easy to forget the importance of taking a moment to breathe. Incorporating just a minute of mindful breathing into your routine can make a huge difference for your well-being. 🧘🏾
Make it a Habit: Set aside a specific time each day - whether in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed - to pause and focus on your breath. Even one minute of deep breathing can help calm your mind, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.
Mindful Awareness: Pay attention to each breath as it enters and leaves your body. Notice the rise and fall of your chest or the expansion and contraction of your belly. Immerse yourself in the present moment.
Breathe Better, Live Better: By making mindful breathing a daily habit, you’ll cultivate a greater sense of inner peace, clarity, and resilience to navigate lifes challenges with ease. Take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Remember, it only takes a minute to transform your day.

Anatomy Fact: Three Types of Muscle in the Body 😯
Did you know? Your body houses three distinct types of muscle tissue, each with its own unique structure and function!
Skeletal Muscle: 💪🏼 Found throughout your body, attached to bones by tendons, skeletal muscle powers voluntary movements like walking, jumping, and typing. Its striated appearance under a microscope is due to the alignment of actin and myosin filaments, enabling precise control over movement. You can really work these babies!!!
Smooth Muscle: 🧬 This muscle type lines the walls of internal organs, blood vessels, and the digestive tract. Its smooth appearance is due to the absence of striations. Smooth muscle works involuntarily, controlling processes like moving food through the digestive system and regulating blood flow.
Cardiac Muscle: ❤️ Exclusive to the heart, cardiac muscle pumps blood throughout the body, ensuring oxygen delivery.
Your body is amazing. And we’re here to help you take care of it. Call us on 9729 7777 to make an appointment today.

Word of the Day: Strength 💪🏼
It seems like such a simple word with a simple meaning, but in the context of physiotherapy, it’s not as simple as it seems…
Originating from Old English ‘strengþu’, strength finds it’s roots in Proto-Germanic “strangitho”. It embodies the concept of robustness and vigour, echoing the very essence of physical prowess.
As a noun, strength denotes the quality or state of being strong, capable of withstanding great force or pressure. That sounds like muscles – but emotional strength and mental resilience are part of the picture too. Physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in enhancing physical strength, restoring mobility, and promoting overall well-being.
That’s a big part of the jigsaw puzzle.
At Physio Elements, we help our patients find their strength. Call us on 9729 7777 to make an appointment. Let’s embrace strength in all its forms and strive towards a healthier, stronger tomorrow.
Did you know that while pain relief is amongst the most common reasons people visit a physiotherapist, our care extends far beyond treating aches and pains. We provide support for neurological and cardiac conditions, pelvic health issues, and even breathing difficulties. 🧠🫀🫁
So, whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or seeking to optimise your health, Physio Elements offers care tailored to your unique needs. Why not book an appointment and feel the positive difference for yourself? 😆
According to the World Health Organisation, headache disorders rank third globally in neurological disease burden, trailing only stroke and dementia. But despite affecting over 40% of the population worldwide, they remain vastly under-diagnosed and under-treated. Migraine, tension-type headache, and cluster headaches are prevalent across ALL demographics. Yep – they affect young and old alike. They contribute significantly to disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), meaning they’re not just painful but can impact their victim’s quality of life and financial stability. 😶🌫️
It’s time to raise awareness of the immense burden these disorders place on individuals and society. As a first step, let’s stop saying “its just a headache”; If you suffer from regular headaches we invite you to call us on 9729 7777.
Our physiotherapists at Physio Elements are here to help with cervicogenic headaches (caused by issues in the neck), tension-type headaches, and even some types of migraines. 🧠

Strapping can provide essential support and stability for joints during sports activities, helping to prevent injuries and enhance performance. But getting it wrong can lead to improper support, decreased range of motion, and even exacerbate existing injuries. Yikes! 😬
Is it time for a refresher on how exactly to strap up before your next big game? Don’t leave your strapping to chance – trust our team to help you perform at your best safely. Give us a call on 9729 7777. ⚽️🏀🏈🏐🎾

Word of the Day: Radius!
The bone – not the distance from the centre of a circle! 🦴
It’s one of the two long bones in the forearm. It has a pivotal rolein forearm rotation and wrist movement. Structurally, it’s fascinating to note that the radius is typically shorter than its partner bone, the ulna. The shorter radius bone allows for greater mobility, while the longer ulna provides stability and support to the forearm and wrist joint. Neat – huh?
Dive deeper into the intricate anatomy of the human body and marvel at its complexity!
Of course, if you’re not getting the mobility or the stability you want from your radius and ulna you can always call us for an appointment on 9729 7777! We’re here to help. 😁
Happy World Environment Day from everyone at Physio Elements! 🌱🪴🌼
Let’s celebrate and honour our planet by taking action to protect and preserve it. From reducing our carbon footprint to advocating for sustainable practices, each of us plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment for future generations. Today and every day, let’s commit to making eco-conscious choices, conserving natural resources, and nurturing biodiversity. Small actions can make a big difference. 🌏
But Why?
Research in social neuroscience reveals that humans are wired to mimic others emotional expressions. Mirror neurons fire when we observe emotions. We’re built this way because it helps foster shared experiences and social cooperation. It means that by consciously nurturing positivity, we can influence others emotions, fostering happiness. 😁
If Anne Frank could believe in the goodness of people and foster happiness even during the very darkest of times, then we can too. Let’s emulate her optimism and spread happiness by cultivating gratitude, empathy, and compassion. ✨
Please share something that makes you feel positive. Because wisdom shared, is happiness spread. ❤️
