The first time Matty and Kerstin have shared their story of Happy Spaces Torquay, together.
We love what Surfcoast Connect are doing, bringing together local businesses in the areas and truly enjoyed sharing our story.
We loved chatting with the team Surfcoast Connect.
Theyâre doing wonderful things on the Surf Coast, connecting locals with local businesses. Thatâs right up our alley â
đ
Weâre so excited to introduce you to Matty and Kerstin, the inspiring pair behind Happy Spaces, the Surfcoast's coworking community thatâs all about connection, belonging, and working closer to home. If youâve ever wished for a place where you can escape the long commutes, be part of something bigger and feel truly supported while you work, youâll understand exactly why Matty started Happy Spaces.
When Matty first moved to Torquay, his vision was simple: create a space where people could reclaim their time and find a deeper sense of connection with others. Happy Spaces opened its doors in late 2019 and quickly became the go-to place for locals looking to blend work and lifestyle in the most inspiring way possible.
Located right in the heart of Torquay, Happy Spaces spans across the upper level of the beautifully designed 4-6 Gilbert St, offering stunning views of Front Beach. This coworking haven connects you with not just the local community, but the breathtaking coastal scenery that makes our coast so specialâa perfect mix of productivity and connection.
Yet Happy Spaces wouldnât be what it is today without Kerstin, who brings her warmth and passion for people to everything she does. When she first stepped into Happy Spaces, Kerstin felt an instant connection and knew she had found her place. Now as the General Manager, sheâs the heart of the space, making sure every member feels welcomed, supported, and part of something meaningful. From her thoughtful onboarding of new members to the connections she fosters between local businesses, Kerstin makes sure Happy Spaces is more than just a place to workâitâs a place where people truly thrive.
Designed with Heart
Happy Spaces is more than desks and meeting rooms. Every detail of the space is carefully designed to reflect the natural beauty of Torquay, from the ocean-inspired flooring to the stunning mural by local artist Liam Veers. With natural light flooding the rooms and eco-friendly touches throughout, Happy Spaces is also a certified B Corp, deeply committed to sustainability and the local environment.
Come for the Desk, Stay for the Community
At the heart of Happy Spaces is a sense of connection and community. Itâs where youâre just as likely to share a laugh over a coffee as you are to collaborate on a project with a fellow member. From spontaneous kitchen chats to shared lunches, this is a space where you can feel at home while still being productive. Itâs these everyday moments that make Happy Spaces truly specialâthis is a place where people care about each other.
With flexible memberships, private offices, hot desks, and meeting rooms, Happy Spaces has options for everyoneâwhether youâre a remote worker, a small business owner, or someone just looking for a more inspiring place to get things done.
Book a tour with Kerstin today to get a real feel for Happy Spacesâthe views alone will draw you in, but itâs the community that will make you want to stay. Visit happyspaces.com.au to book your tour today!
And stay tunedâwe canât wait to share the full story of Matty and Kerstinâs journey and the heart behind Happy Spaces.

Writing and launching a book takes dedication, creativity, and perseverance. Weâre happy to share that Lyndon from our community has achieved this milestone.
Lyndon Russell, Managing Director at Next Level Accountants, yesterday launched âKnow Your Numbersâ, a book that helps you to get clear on the numbers that matter, get paid and build profit.
The Happy community attended Lyndonâs book launch to support his incredible achievement.
Working close to home, but not at home. Productivity, connection and collaboration awaits.

Back in 2019/20 before weâd fully launched in Torquay there was a bunch of crew who backed us in and joined our community before weâd even finished building. In fact, they stayed with us while we built⌠hereâs to everyone that believed in our vision before it could be seen. Weâre so grateful for the âoriginalsâ who help us co-create the environment and community. So many connections and stories have happened since then. Hereâs just a few of you, but to all of youâŚ. Thankyou and ⌠we love you đm

Last week with our friends at Surf Coast Women in Business x One Roof.
A great night of connection and community đ
Community connection and belonging in your local area are core to your wellbeing.
But what does that mean? Is it the sense of home that comes from feeling part of your community, bumping into people you know in the street, your favourite place, that spot in nature, the friendships and groups youâre part of, the shared experiences and collaborations along the way.
Your local world might seem geographically small sometimes but in reality thereâs a whole WORLD inside it. Ready to be discovered, close to home.
What does local belonging mean for you?
