Beaumaris Bowls Club
Both regular competitive and social bowls are offered. The Club welcomes new members. Free coaching L. Yott reserve and establish a Bowling Club.
In the early 1950s a number of local citizens decided to form a lawn bowls club in Beaumaris. Following discussions with the then City of Sandringham, approval was given for the club to lease land in the F. Considerable hard work was involved in setting up the club and its green and in 1955 it became affiliated with RVBA, followed in 1957 with the Ladies joining with the VLBA. From its humble begi
We tried something new at our first Pennant practice of the season on Saturday. Group one experienced Tai Chi while the other group played 6 sets of 2 ends of 2 bowl singles against 6 different players. Then the groups swapped over. People were pleasantly surprised that they enjoyed the Tai Chi.

#39.
The new season is just around the corner. Over next month we will be refreshing our skills and trialing new skills to be at our very best for the new season. Bob the Bowler finds consistent weight control the most difficult factor to achieve in lawn bowls. To master weight control, Bob strives for a well-grooved delivery released with just right momentum. Achieving the exact right momentum every time is the trick. Bob read and visualised the basketball player attempting a 3-pointer, 22/23 feet from the hoop at a different angle every time and with no time to measure the weight for the throw. When asked how the basketball player controlled the weight of the throw so consistently, he responded. ‘I throw it harder or I throw it softer’. The player was talking of an acquired measure of weight control that came in that singular moment of performance mindset, until it was an instinctive moment. It is the same for Bob. Mastering weight control becomes an instinctive embedded ‘harder or softer’ roll of the bowl with each roll of the bowl. It is the new challenge that comes with every next bowl. It is the challenge that never goes away. It is a fresh challenge every time Bob steps on the mat. While the lawn bowler can still step on the mat, he or she will never grow old. Bowls is best at Beaumaris.
Another great night for Beaumaris Modern at Beaumaris Bowls.
Always a pleasure to have your events in our clubhouse.
#35. Bob the Bowler was chatting with some newer players, who fired off a number of questions seeking to demystify the game just played: such as: ‘How many shots can you score on an end,’ ‘What does a Lead need to do when an end is complete?’
Essentially, it was a conversation about ‘etiquette’. Etiquette has evolved along with the Laws, Rules, regulations, and conventions. ‘Leads pushing bowls back after an end or preparing to roll the Jack for the next end’ is convention.
The great Australian Champion of yesteryear, Glyn Bosisto wrote, ‘etiquette is rather a convention of decorum’.
Then there is ‘bowls parlance,’ such as: ‘draw shot’ or ‘dead draw,’ ‘more grass’, ‘less grass’ and ‘longer pendulum needed for longer ends’.
Understanding the ‘bowls parlance and etiquette’ can all be a bit overwhelming and challenging for our newer bowlers, as they discover that Bowls is Best at Beaumaris.
#36. Bob the Bowler was at the workout with the local primary school students and Bob experienced an altogether different experience. Bob managed 5 young ladies who listened to a short explanation about bias and how it directs the pathway of the bowl to the ‘jack’.
When you are young and flexible and you can bend and twist with ease and chase your bowl no matter where it finishes. When your bowl happens to be a toucher the excitement that erupts needs to be witnessed. It was as if Mount Vesuvius had erupted, which saw one student execute a lookalike ‘Gold Coast Lloyd Johnston backflip somersault’ without batting an eyelid. Bob the Bowler just looked on in wonder.
From time to time the students broke into chorus and improvised dancing routines and bowls took a back seat. In spite of everything the students clearly enjoyed their time and their brief experience of rolling the bowl. Bowls are best at Beaumaris.
#37. Bob the Bowler recently returned from a holiday in the Mediterranean, meeting some interesting new people along the way. It all started off at our first hotel the Hotel Milano Scala in Milan in Italy. As Bob approached the hotel, he was greeted by the Security man at the door of the hotel with a very pleasant “Bongiorno”, to which Bob replied an equally pleasant “Good morning”. The doorman asked in broken English “Americana?”. ” No, No, Australian” says Bob. “Oh” says the Doorman, “Crocodiles, Crocodile Dundee and Paul Hogan.” A more Aussie welcome could not have not made us more welcome at our first stop in Italy. Clearly, this Doorman had an in-depth insight on Australia, its culture, crocodiles and Paul Hogan. With such an insight, Bob did consider inviting Doorman to Beaumaris to learn that there are no crocodiles in Beaumaris and that Bowls are best at Beaumaris.

Can you spot anyone you know in the crowd?
Lawn Bowls: Jack High 1983 - Bellis Vs Oakley - Part 1 Awesome game of lawn bowls, 1983 Jack High match. Peter Bellis Vs Geoff Oakley. Great game of old lawn bowls.
Love this perpetual trophy.
Love this... the hotly contested 'KOOLAMEIN CUP'... the local derby between Wakool & Moulamein Bowling Clubs. The rivalry is strong, and the trophy has been gracing the bars of these two clubs since 1961! It's currently displayed proudly on the bar in the new clubhouse at Wakool (for now)! 🏆
Congratulations Bowls Vic. on your Vic Sports Awards.
This week in social bowls one of the issues discussed came up. Now, most bowlers should know the answer to what happens if the mat is not on the correct line and the jack has been delivered. But do you know how the seconds sort out a dispute of the scorecards if all the easy means fail? Another law 12.2.1 is often ignored: A player must not go into a neighbouring rink when play is in progress. It would be a good idea to read this article to refresh your memory of the common laws.

John Bradley Mixed Triples Champagne Trophy 2024
The runners up for the John Bradley Mixed Triples Champagne Trophy were Stella Jarvis, Skip Mark Hinkley and James Russell from St Kilda Bowls Club. Well done, it was a very close finish needing a counting of the ends to determine the winners.
The winners of today's John Bradley Mixed Triples Champagne Trophy are the team from Glen Eira McKinnon. Skip Anthony Hall, Russell Dowling and Ann McCarthy. Congratulations. It was a wonderful day and enjoyed by all in the sparkling sunshine. Thanks to all our Beaumaris members who ensured that the day ran so well.
