Langwarrin Men's Shed
The Langwarrin Men's Shed is serving
men in the Langwarrin community. We are open to the public.
The Shed is a safe haven for blokes and a place where you will be supported and accepted amongst friends. LMS is currently open Monday to Friday's from 9.30 am and invites any interested men to come along and join us. You may like to complete projects for yourself or the community or just have a "cuppa" and a chat. At the Langwarrin Men's Shed (LMS) you can spend time doing woodwork, metalwork, le
The Frankston Yacht Club are looking for volunteers who have boat licences to moor boats for them during their season which starts in September. Contact them directly or come back via our site and we will get the contact details.
Today was a typical Friday at the Shed- by 9.00 am there were 6 members beavering away in the shed on projects, another 2 at a school sorting out a cubby/ mud kitchen they want, then by 10.30 we have 2 members arranging a piece of furniture to be delivered to a lass who is doing it tough. Around 10 the Treasurer comes in and sorts out what Treasurers do so he tips in a few hours of his time. The Secretary is also in the loop and doing the same - Likewise the President who has started a little earlier. Later in the morning 5 members head of to a local primary to help the students get a little insight into the construction of items. Another 2 have headed off to help a lass clean out her garage of items we may be able to repurpose. 2 members head off to pick up some garden items we may be able to fix and resell to help keep the wheels turning. By 1.30 we have another group loading up 2 utes in preparation for the Bunning's BBQ we will run tomorrow morning . By 2PM we have closed up the shed but plenty keeps going on. And whilst this was happening other members were cleaning up , enjoying the conversations that can be be had and in general adding some ideas and value to our community.
Our local Community Centre has an opportunity available which is outlined in the attached document. Someone who follows us may know of someone looking for an opportunity like this. I am involved with the Langwarrin Community Centre on behalf of our shed and also in a committee capacity. The management and staff are just a pleasure to talk to & deal with .
Thank you to all the lovely people who attended our garage sale today. We were excited about the outcome and in our own minds we were comfortable that we had delivered product at extremely competitive prices to our attendees .We stand ready to assist our neighbourhood so feel free to visit our shed. Helping others ( internal and external ) is the major reason our organisation exists . We are striving to make the world a better place.
The shed will be having a clean out of our surplus timber in our storage area on Friday 1st March. Material will be available on first come basis. No holds. Most suitable for firewood or other use. Pre enquiries ignored! Items will be free but if you wish to make a small financial donation we would not say no. Pick up from 10am. Ask for the duty manager.
Big day for the lads yesterday with a Bunnings BBQ completed successfully with around 900 sausages sold. The project involved 20 members of the shed and was ably managed by Graeme Lawson.
Another one coming up mid Feb 2024 and hopefully this one will be as successful as yesterdays. On a downside the cook on the last shift dropped the last sausage of the day after a hungry patron was congratulating himself on getting the last snag. That cook will be in Port Arthur Tas for the next BBQ correcting his errant ways.
And a huge thank you to Bunnings Frankston for allowing us to conduct this BBQ.
The Langwarrin Men's Shed is very saddened to hear that Peta Murphy - our local Federal Member of Parliament has unfortunately lost her valiant fight against cancer. We respect and admire her as she never gave up and was always there to listen to us and appreciate our opinions and needs. Vale Peta Murphy- Gone far to young
Our Monday night opening experiment did not work so we are discontinuing this initiative effective this evening. Should people be interested in the concept please communicate with us via our website ( not via facebook) . Facebook is not the platform we use for other than info on what we are doing.
We have tried to interest local Men with an interest in the Men's shed with an offering of opening on Monday nights from 6-9PM. So far little interest so after the end of the month we will drop this offering unless we are aware of three things:
1. Yes there are men who are interested in attending in the evening.
2. The preferred night is ( tell us the night) ( Not FRI, Sat or Sunday). List two days as option1 and option 2
3. Decision will be based on numbers interested.
I know that we are not going to get agreement on the one evening so it will be up to us to see if we can make it work for the majority
The Massive Garage sale tomorrow is going to rock your socks with the number of items we have. Come along and see for yourself.
Garage Sale pre notification Sat Oct 7th - if it's not the correct date then I will correct the date without prompting. This one will not involve our usual range of Inca artifacts for less than two dollars , Roman chariot wheels - three for a shilling, Greek statues delivered free including cranage or recovered items from the Titanic . Also we sold out of Picassos and other paintings and our last copy of a 500 BC bible failed to reach reserve so we gave it charity. NO! - Tools, toools, toooools , but there is an electric vacuum cleaner that looks like it well and truly pre deceased Edison. Watch this space for further details. If you are a dealer and want to inspect in advance try and pick a day when I am not there as that may be a better outcome for your day.

Today we had an opportunity to pull open the retirement filing cabinet and drag out a team of skilled people to man the traffic management for the Langwarrin Football/ Netball Club who hosted junior footy finals on Ovals 1&2 today at the Llyod Park facility. In short the Footy Club got caught short Monday by their usual provider of traffic management pulling out. End result we got a team together by Tuesday arvo ( 3 members had previous experience) and we made it happen. Thanks to the few driving clowns who embarrassed themselves in front of their children by wanting to do things their way on the day - not the correct way as dictated by the club. They didn't get it their way & hopefully this will be to their embarrassment as their actions were inexcusable & unnecessary . At our our age every chuckle at the expense of fools like them is good for the heart. Special shout out to Geoff, Colin, Chris ,Nick, Steve & Graeme for spending over 3 1/2 hours each making this work safely and effectively. Thanks to the Club for giving us a shot at it. I am positive your club would be happy with the outcome. It was great to have the experience of Geoff , Colin & Chris who were able to predict where the likely problems could occur and either eliminate or mitigate the impact. I don't know where all the cars came from - seemed like half of Victoria turned up but we found spots for all of them and even found closer spots ( that didn't appear to exist at first glance ) for people with disabled stickers. Also the coffees and bacon and egg rolls the club provided went close to legendary status.
Not to be upstaged LMS President Steve demonstrated his skills by producing this magnificent Tasmanian Oak dough board.
All the members at the Men's Shed have their thoughts and best wishes directed to our long serving secretary and current assistant Secretary , Garry Schober, who was rushed into ICU 2 days ago. For all those out there that know Garry and his partner Jan then now is the time to tip in the support he and Jan need. We will keep you posted and all our best wishes go to Garry for his recovery from a very serious illness. He has given a lot to our Shed and it is our duty to return the favour.
Stripped back a rusty old outdoor setting with about 6 layers of paint and missing rungs and turned it into a setting even I would consider sitting on. Another project ticked off at the Men's Shed.
We've being dragging the chain on posts recently and the author will accept the blame for that. However the author doesn't particularly feel predisposed to guilt so onwards and upwards we travel. just a short note to say if you need clothesline, rope, turnbuckles , chain, plus a multitude of other donated product please visit and see what we were given today. Huge shout out to Mitre 10 Frankston for the donation. It will all be priced fairly.
Today we had a gem come into the shed. It is a mobile bench saw and planner that probably dates to the 50's. The gentleman that bought it in was of two minds about disposing of it because it had been his father's pride and joy. We had a long chat and explained that we would make every attempt we could to ensure that the next owner shared a passion for older tools as opposed to a quick grab of a buck dealer. If I didn't have 3 saw benches at home already ( was 4 on Saturday) I would have embraced it because it was similar to my father's one. Anyhow, nostalgia is nostalgia, storage space is storage space and the two do not coincide in our case. It went on Market place this arvo and was withdrawn by 3PM with a significant offer. Watch this space as the deal has yet to be finalised . ( By that I mean the cash has has not been dropped in the hat)
Huge day today with a garage sale on the first day of the new financial year. Thank you to all the clients and browsers that attended and made the day worthwhile for our shed. Thanks to the members who also braved an uncertain weather pattern and manned the event. Interesting as this event was posted on Marketplace and we had over 2000 hits - yes no mistake with the number. If you have something in mind you think we can help with please just send us a note and we will get back to you. We are a community service and our intent is to help as best we can and continue to grow and deliver value to our neighbourhood and at the same time keep ourselves financially viable.
Garage Sale tomorrow - we had an absolute gem today - a bowl that was worth probably $200 and I was going to put ? on it . Anyhow one of our members recognised it as his onion container from the last BBQ and has recovered it ! Who knows what I haven't recognised as a good deal for the shed. Be there to see if you can cause me to weep if you end up with the bargain you cannot believe is possible! I am more than happy to cry!
Mud kitchen on board for delivery this afternoon and it will hopefully be a surprise for the youngsters tomorrow morning
Mud kitchen completed - the young ones will have fun
Mud kitchen for pre schoolers taking shape in a members workshop
Big day at the shed today with members actively working on projects and Bill continuing on the never ending maintenance regime. Allan and Bob delivered some of the results of the Women in Workshops creations and purchases and thereafter it was an end of week clean up , a heap of firewood placed outside and the week declared successful .Thanks to all those that have contacted us & used our services and we can assure you that next week we will be like ARNIE said -" I'll be back"!!
There will be some bags of firewood outside the roller door in the next half hour
Final week today of Women in workshops. In the 25 odd hours that comprised the 6 modules it appears that it has been well worth it. One of the women even made cakes for us with a thank you theme. As an aside most of the items the women built were constructed from recycled materials from diverse sites such as decking , bed bases, pallets, fence palings and posts etc etc.
Thank you to all that follow our site - we are here to help the community. great news that our cull of offcuts made their way to a good cause. Thanks to those who chose to offer us a donation toward our ongoing commitment to our fellow members of society.
The quick arrived! More to come the week after next. Watch this space.
