The main problem with a STEM-Law degree is that there aren't many STEM-Law subjects. In light of that, four of our exec applied for, and participated in, the Sydney Summer Innovation Program (SIP).
Over three days, we attended a series of seminars centred around AI, but across diverse subjects, like philosophies of justice, radiopharmaceuticals, and exiting your startup from 'stealth mode'. Although my group did not win the final competition ( ), the value of the program was not just the prize.
For me, it was an incredible opportunity to realise the incredible world which exists within our STEM-Law niche, and I am deeply appreciative of the chance I got to participate. - Alex Hoffman (President)
Today is the big day! Join the zoom tonight at 7:30pm for a wild night of constitutional amendments and elected positions. If you haven’t gotten your EOI for an exec position in yet, do it ASAP at this link:

🚨🚨🚨RETURN OF STEM / LAW SOC🚨🚨🚨
Hey everyone! After a brief hiatus, STEM Law is back! And to kick it off, we’ll be holding our Annual General Meeting on Monday 30th of January on Zoom where we’ll be voting in our new Exec team🔥🔥 Come along and run for the exec positions 🙋♂️🙋♀️ If you’re keen to get involved, please fill out a quick EOI here with a bit about yourself: https://forms.gle/4nYDWZ7i83Xiz73J9
We’ll also be making some quick constitutional amendments. If you’re interested (law kids do love the fine print) then have a read of our constitution on the USU website, or come along to hear it from the horse’s mouth. Note that you do not need to be a STEM or law student to join the society - all are welcome.
7pm. 30th of Jan. Put this in your calendars: https://uni-sydney.zoom.us/j/82771119679 . We’ll try to keep it as short as possible for your own sanity 🍭🍭

Introducing the inaugural STEM-Law mentoring program! We're now taking applications for mentors (years 2 onwards), and accepting mentees (years 1-2)!
Studying a combined STEM-Law degree can feel isolating; there aren't that many of us, and we can face unique challenges that sometimes might feel too difficult to solve ourselves. Don't know what courses to study when? Don't know how to go on exchange? Not sure how on earth to do internships in both law and STEM?
Why not give yourself an avenue to seek advice?
Enrolling as a mentor provides you with opportunities to help foster the next generation of STEM-Law students, gain PEP hours, or make new connections!
The mentoring program will be as informal or formal as the mentor and mentee decide between themselves — we're just here to match people up.

Did you know that this Thursday is "R U OK" day?
As students studying a combination of two intense degrees, sometimes study can feel overwhelming or confronting. Don't forget to prioritise your mental wellbeing, seek help if you need it (or even if you don't), and reach out to others! Here's a message from the Faculty of Engineering:
"Hey ya’ll. We have hit week 3 of Semester 2. The assessments and work commitments may be piling up alongside the stress of deadlines etc. ☹ The comforting thing is a lot of us are feeling the same way. As they say . 😊 If you want a break from the grind and meet some folk of your kind, come and have a chat Friday @ 11 am- 12 pm or @ 3pm-4pm. Other students JUST LIKE YOU will be chilling in this ZOOM room waiting to have chat. We can play some tunes, maybe try a yoga move or two and for sure have a laugh. Hope to see you all there for some chill and chat time 😊."

CANCELLATION OF ALL EVENTS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
In line with current University policy on the COVID-19 outbreak, we have had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel all STEM Law events for this semester until further notice. While this is disappointing, the health of the broader community is our primary concern during these challenging times. Depending on circumstances, this may include postponing our AGM until next semester.
Unfortunately, we will not be moving forward with an Events Committee for this semester. Thank you to those that submitted applications, and we look forward to helping you get more involved in the society in the future.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send us a message or email. We wish everyone to stay safe and healthy during this difficult period.
