In the era of silent movies the great Charlie Chaplain said so much without words, a reminder that love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrong. Children need the power of love!

I remember my son hated reading as a child, even though I always had a book he just wasn’t interested no matter how I tried. Now, as an adult, that same son reads more books than I ever did, sometimes it takes a little longer!

Pro tip: Carry a book with you at all times. With a book by your side, your default mode will be reading not scrolling social media or cramming a few emails when you have a couple of minutes.

Encourage your children to keep a book with them as well. Stash a few books in the car so your family always has a book to grab.

My girls also love magazines. Check out the Week Junior for a kid friendly weekly news publication or Highlights for elementary kiddos. My middle schoolers also love cooking magazines and Real Simple.

What a difference it will make to encourage your children to read instead of consuming mindless entertainment on a smartphone or tablet! 📚📚📚

So very true. It is truly a privilege to help children who have experienced adverse childhood events that can lead to the expression of protection in ways that are misunderstood…

Resilience Fund: KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa 24/07/2021

Many of you will know of my closeness to, and ongoing work with orphaned and abandoned children in South Africa. Our charity Silver Sparrow came to be from our work there.

Our urgent focus is to the recent tragic events across KwaZulu-Natal where the children we support live...

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has plunged into a security crisis where children and families are struggling to secure food and living essentials. Silver Sparrow has been working alongside communities in KZN for over ten years, and has launched a RESILIENCE FUND to facilitate critical resources reaching those who need it most, through trusted, local South African pathways. Help us help children and families to bounce back and prepare for the future with our RESILIENCE FUND... ..and remember - 100% of donations to Silver Sparrow go to where they are intended, and donations $2 and over are tax deductible in Australia.
