In this small study, six sessions of massage significantly reduced both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while also enhancing sleep in women with hypertension. Science is now beginning to provide an account of why touch matters so much. Touch on the skin can reduce heartrate, blood pressure and cortisol levels – all factors related to stress – in both adults and babies. It facilitates the release of oxytocin, a hormone that provides sensations of calm, relaxation and being at peace with the world.

Persistent pain is no joke. But here's something more lighthearted and transient.
Chronic back pain doesn't always arise from the joint or muscles. It can arise from the way the brain processes pain.
Chronic Back Pain May Arise From Nociplastic Pain If you have chronic back pain and are not responding to standard therapies, abnormal pain processing from nociplastic pain should be considered as a source.
To mark National Pain Week, our posts this week will be themed around persistent pain.

This study investigates the effects of hand and foot massages on reducing preoperative anxiety in women undergoing cataract surgery. It highlights the significant impact of simple interventions like hand and foot massage on preoperative anxiety. Both types of massage significantly reduced anxiety and heart rate compared to placebo. The findings are robust and applicable in many perioperative settings supporting the use of these non-invasive interventions in perioperative care to improve patient outcomes.
