Two Menai HS teams played in the U14’s regional futsal championships today. Both teams showed sportsmanship throughout the day. One of the teams made the quarterfinals, however, lost in a close one.

It’s been a busy term for the Creative and Performing Arts Department. Junior and SeniorDance Ensembles recently performed at Spotlight Dance Festival at the Seymour Centre, followed up with our very successful Drama Production “One Bad Apple” last week.
Well, we’ve got one more event - “Ignite 2024” is our annual Ensembles Showcase. Come and hear what our Music Ensembles have been up to so far this year.

Recently both our Junior and Senior Dance ensembles represented Menai at the Into the Spotlight Dance Festival. Performances at this Festival display the passion, skill and creativity of students from all across Sydney, and our students were no exception!

Maximos was down at Nowra on the weekend competing at the NSW Cross Country Championships. Now off to Tasmania for the National Cross Country Championships!
Today we had a small taster scene during Formal Awards Assembly from our Drama Production which shows next week. By late this afternoon the sets were finished and bumped in. We’re very excited.

Sutherland Shire Council is providing a free online workshop for parents and supervisors of learner drivers, offering practical advice on how to help learner drivers become safer drivers.
This virtual workshop will provide practical advice and information including:
• Understanding the Graduated Licensing Scheme and the current laws of L and P licence holders
• Completing the Learner driver log book and app
• Understanding the benefits of supervised on-road driving experience
• Supervising learner drivers
• Young Driver Issues
• The Safer Drivers Course
• Lots of tips to help the supervising driver and learner.

Yesterday’s hockey double header against Cronulla HS saw our girls win in a nail biting match winning 3-2 in extra time, but unfortunately our boys went down 4 nil.
Good luck to our girls team who have now made it to the top 16 in the state 🥳

Menai's Got Talent has a new band rockin' the house!
On Tuesday night our Junior and Senior Dance Ensembles had their first performances of the year, at the Sutherland Dance Festival. All students involved represented Menai with maturity and professionalism, with stunning performances. For some, this was their first experience dancing on stage for an audience!

Year 7 have been having library lessons to learn how to access our Britannica and ClickView databases. They can access these through their student portal both at school and at home.
Britannica is an excellent source of information with articles written by experts in their fields. Content is continuously reviewed and updated and vetted by fact-checkers, thus students can know that the information is accurate. There are three levels of learning catering to all student interests and abilities. In addition to articles, Britannica also provides images, videos and additional useful authoritative websites on a huge range of subjects.
Students can email articles to themselves or others, translate the article into another language, have the article read to them and uniquely have the citation displayed ready for their bibliography. Britannica is an excellent source of information for our students.
To access Britannica ask your child to log on to their student portal and select Britannica.
ClickView is an educational video resource library that your child can access both at school and at home. It comprises thousands of videos and educational resources for all subjects. This Australian platform hosts a wide range of classroom friendly video content, from popular films to documentaries and Australian made educational videos. The educational content is aligned and designed to give Australian students a deeper understanding of topics and concepts. Students can also access movies and tv.
To access ClickView ask your child to log on to their student portal and select ClickView.
From the 5th-28th of June the Push Up Mental Health Challenge takes place. The challenge is to raise awareness for su***de and mental health in Australia. The target is 3,249 or 1625 push ups/ alternative exercises over the 24 days, 1 for every su***de in Australia during 2022. On the 21st of June, Mr Carpenter will be running a teacher vs student push up challenge during assembly to again show the dominance of teachers in every sporting/physical challenge vs students.
