Chris Rekiel has now begun his training to become the world's newest Lancaster pilot. As a young kid, Chris attended the first post restoration flight of this Lancaster back in 1988!

Formation flight with the RAF Red Arrows!

Flying heritage: A beautiful image of a very rare opportunity - the Red Arrows joining one of only two still airworthy Avro Lancaster bombers, in the skies above Ontario this week.

Officially named the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster, but affectionately known as VeRA, the aircraft is based at Hamilton - home of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

The only other Lancaster still flying is operated by the Royal Air Force’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby in the UK.

Approximately 11:40 am - Red Arrows arrival at Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

Approximately 2:15 pm - Red Arrows and Lancaster depart for a special photo flight. The plan is for the aircraft to join up over the western end of Lake Ontario before heading to Niagara Falls for a 2:55 pm flypast.

Our Lancaster will be taking part in a photo flight with the RAF Red Arrows today! Weather permitting, you can catch a glimpse of the rare formation between 5 pm and 6 pm over Lake Ontario between Grimsby and St. Catharines.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, tonight’s flight has been cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions.
