Is trying to be healthy hard?
Yes it can be
Why is that a problem?

Sometimes it is a bit of a mind battle to eat healthy, get to the gym or do that workout
Or to start that meal prep routine or even try to get to bed at a decent time

Does it feel like a battle?
Like a push and pull?

Sometimes this will always be a bit of a struggle and
It may always feel like a bit of a negotiation

But what if that is ok?
What if you get out of your head the idea that it "NEEDS" to be easy

You can do hard things
And who knows, it might get easier or the negotiations might be less
Or the resistance will be about reaching the next level

But you will never find out if you always cave or give in to the first sign of resistance

Waiting to make them easier isn't working

Show up for YOU
Do hard things and don't cave when things get hard because that's when change happens!

Did you know?

I know alot of us think we need/have to exercise for weight loss and for the benefits to build muscle, strength and tone our bodies, but there are so many other health benefits other than just weight loss.

Exercise for your longevity, for your health, to keep your bones and joints strong so that way you can be as mobile as possible to run after your kids and grand kids!

Not to mention preventing signs of aging.... like who doesn't want to look and feel younger?

Did you know that sugar comes in different forms and you probably don’t even know you’re consuming as much as you are.
Canadians consume daily about 57g of sugar. That is 14 teaspoons of sugar EVERYDAY.
What are some different types of sugar that are in foods that we consume?

Glucose - Honey, golden syrup, dried fruits such as dates, currants & figs, small amounts are found in some fruits (grapes and dried apricots), vegetables (sweet corn) and honey.

Fructose - agave syrup, apple juice, apples, caramel, dry figs, honey, licorice, molasses

Sucrose - naturally in sugar cane, sugar beets, apples, oranges, carrots

Lactose - Bread and baked goods, milk chocolate and some candies, salad dressings and sauces, breakfast cereals and cereal bars, instant potatoes, soups, rice and noodle mixes, lunch meats (other than kosher), cheese flavored crackers and other snacks

You can see why we can consume so much so easily on a daily basis. Of course there are naturally derived and others that contain added.

Happy Monday!

So Halloween as come and gone and I think we can all admit we may have had 1 (or a few) too many Halloween treats? If you had the willpower to not have any, good for you! I will admit that I definitely had a few treats over the weekend and the kids brought home an abundance of candy.

This week I want to talk about sugar and how maybe some of you may have a sugar addiction to some degree (big or small). Let's face it, sugar is an addictive and I think this week is a perfect time to address this topic.

Now that we have Halloween candy in the house and I am sure that now is also the time that we start thinking and preparing for all the Christmas baking that you will be doing in the next weeks to come.

So I would love to hear who thinks they may have a sugar addiction and if you want to learn some ways to help with eliminating this?

Transformation Tuesday!

I just love receiving messages from coaching clients with small wins that they achieve that just make their day.
This client has just started with me and a goal for her is to get into clothes that she has put away because of weight gain over the years.
In just 2 weeks, she has already been able to fit into some "old-new" clothes with some of the changes we have made together!

She also sent a picture of herself and you could just see how much she was glowing.

Amazing what the body can do and how it can change in such little time.

Let's evening workouts.
It's a myth that "you won't sleep after exercising late at night". Although there is no proven research to this, some people may have their sleep impacted by it.
Evening workouts aren't for everybody as you get tired, things come up and you just don't have the energy by end of the day BUT... there are some great benefits.
I know for me, it's a great was to relieve any stress built up over the course of the day.
You have fueled your body with food (hopefully) throughout the day which will help with your performance. Testosterone is also increased later in the day, so evening workouts could be better for muscle building and strength!

BUT... if you're not disciplined enough to actually get your workout done, consistency could be a downfall.

If you can't get that morning workout/exercise in, afternoon workouts also have great benefits.
Another time to just get that workout done and over with but also to help you avoid that afternoon - late day crash!

Afternoon workouts are great because you will increase your energy levels, mood and may also improve performance because of fueling your body with food helping with strength and endurance!

Not everyone has the luxury of having the time in the afternoon but if you do, it definitely has its benefits!

Morning exercise and workouts definitely have their benefits but it doesn't always work for everyone based on their schedule and sleep. Getting it done first thing does set you up for the day and gets it done and over with so there is no room for excuses that you will do it later. Unless of course you press snooze!

Transformation Tuesday

Shout out to this client I worked with on her weight loss journey specifically from July 2019 until Sept 2020 and hear what she had to share.

I started with Elektra Fitness (Christine) in July 2019 and have continued with her classes up until recently. Doing her classes and working with her has not only allowed me to lose weight, but I am stronger inside and out with the confidence I needed to get back.

Growing up, I was an athlete competing internationally as well as being on every high school sports team. I loved working out and I lived for the competition of sport.
After high school, my mental health took a turn for the worst. In the summer of 2019, I could no longer recognize the girl I saw in the mirror. Not only was I unhappy with my physical image, but the way I began to think about myself was toxic. My anxiety, depression and PTSD controlled my life and I became a stranger to myself.
In the summer of 2019, I wanted to learn how to love myself again and I trusted Christine to help me get there. Of course, I had my ideal weight in mind but what mattered most to me was how I felt inside AND out.
In the time of doing Elektra Fitness’ classes, I’ve not only reached my goal weight but I’ve found a new appreciation for myself. I’ve learned to respect and value myself. I no longer punish myself for cheat days or missing a workout, but I listen to my body and what it needs as healthy living is a journey, not a destination.
The workouts challenge you in the best ways and they’re for all fitness levels so that your workout is unique to meet you where you are at. Not only do we focus on cardio, but I gained confidence in building muscle too. I no longer want to be skinny, I want to be strong!
