🔸On Sept 27, 2023, RCSCC Haida gathered in Mississauga, Ontario, on a significant day for all Canadians – Truth and Reconciliation Day. Cadets and Adult staff wore orange shirts and ribbons to honour the Indigenous communities affected by Canada’s history. This day is a solemn reminder of our commitment to acknowledge the painful truths of our past and work towards a future founded on justice, understanding, and healing.

Canada’s history is marked by the legacy of colonization and the suffering experienced by Indigenous peoples. The site we stand on today, like many others across the country, carries the weight of that history. It is a place where the truths of the past have been hidden, ignored, or silenced for far too long.

Reconciliation is a journey that requires all of us to listen, learn, and reflect. It’s a process that involves recognizing the injustices that Indigenous communities have endured for generations and working together to build a more equitable and inclusive future. We will continue to take a path to reflect, remember, and stand in solidarity with all of the Indigenous communities affected by these tragedies. Thank you Haida, for showing up and honouring the Indigenous peoples. And let us hope we all continue to make strides towards meaningful action for a brighter future.🔸

One of the biggest moments was celebrating one of our staff members, Lt(N) Derek McNally, as this was his final ACR of his CIC Career. He has had a long and strong history at RCSCC Haida, and sadly this was his final Annual Ceremonial Review as he retires from the CAF early next year!

To Lt(N) Derek McNally, you’ve enriched RCSCC Haida with your mentorship, leadership, and incredible passion for the program. Our corps is eternally grateful for the impact you’ve left and will continue to leave in your last few months in the CIC.

In true Haida tradition, we had a ceremonial March off on our Canon, as we gave him his three cheers, and marched him off his final ACR.

Thank you, Lieutenant ( N )Derek McNally 💛🖤

Master Sailor Sevigny, a staff member with us for the last couple years is stepping away as he pursues further education. He fulfilled his role as one of our phase staff and also as one of the coaches for the RCSCC Haida Band. On behalf of the cadets in the band, the senior cadets in the band decided to thank MS Sevigny and present him with a token of their appreciation for all that he did this year. Thank you CPO2 Zhang and CPO2 Xia for making the presentation to MS Sevigny.

MS Sevigny, on behalf of the band, thank you for your time and dedication to pushing their growth as musicians. Your time with us has not gone unnoticed and the cadets are grateful for the lessons learned from you!
