"And I see how important that is for a community, the ability to weave people together. We’re healers. We have the ability to share love. And that’s so important. It’s the sacredness of our two-spirit people that weave our communities together. We have to do it all together."

Amazing Kiara Julia! Keep up the great work in your community ✨💚
Last Wednesday July 3, 2024, I had South Ess*x Community Council - SECC (Children and Youth) and I had a great time practicing Laughter Yoga for their summer camp programming!
Thank you again for welcoming me into your day and for giving me the opportunity to share space and be creative with how to share our time together.
Big special thank you to each of the participants, VERY GOOD VERY GOOD YAY, to each of you!! Led laughter yoga for 2 groups at the SECC Children and Youth Summer Camp!
Also, super proud of the youth from the group of grade 4-6 who participated in creatively coming up with laughter exercises in small groups and shared it courageously with the big group! YAY! We had so much fun getting to experience your creativity and joy of trying out something new!
Thank you as well to the explorative group of younger kids — we had fun trying out different ways to include laughter into some games and imagination! We started seated as they felt a little tired and we gained waves of energy throughout the rest of our session.
I look forward to being back at SECC for other programming in the future! Again thank you for welcoming me!
Radiate Your Light 🩷✨
Our fourth submission for the Radiate Your Light Campaign with comes from Leisha Toory from Ottawa Ontario.
“I have learned that by cocooning myself during my low mental health days, I have experienced the loss of community connections. My family’s warm parenting in the cold pandemic is my inspiration for my kindness cards projects. I came alone to St. John’s in January 2020. Nonetheless, my family would arrange frequent happy video calls and send cute kindness messages all throughout the day. These helped to establish calmness, ease looming anxiety and provide reassurance and hope amid terrifying global news. I learned that my family wove the warm fabric of familial unity, helping to build resilience. I aim to grow this fabric of unity to reach those struggling with their mental health.” 🩷
Thank you Leisha for sharing your story ✨

🎉 Celebrating the CPRA Emerging Leader Award Winner: Qumangaapik Arnatsiaq! 🎉
We are thrilled to announce that this year's CPRA Emerging Leader Award goes to Qumangaapik Arnatsiaq from Nunavut! Qumangaapik's remarkable dedication to youth recreation and leadership development has made an indelible impact on his community.
Supporting and celebrating young Canadians is essential, as they are the future leaders of the parks and recreation sector. Qumangaapik exemplifies this potential through his innovative and passionate efforts.
With the support of the Recreation and Parks Association of Nunavut, Qumangaapik escorted three young leaders to Toronto for the “Get Happy Summer Day Camp” youth training. Upon their return, he and the young leaders organized a summer camp, offering quality programming five days a week for the youth in Igloolik.
His commitment didn’t stop there. After further training in Winnipeg, Qumangaapik, along with four others, initiated the Winter Youth Program, an after-school program delivered three times weekly. This program has provided invaluable opportunities for the youth in his community to engage in recreational activities and personal development.
Qumangaapik has been dedicated to youth recreation for six years, continually striving to create positive, enriching experiences for young people. His leadership, innovation, and dedication truly embody the spirit of the CPRA Emerging Leader Award.
Congratulations, Qumangaapik Arnatsiaq! Your hard work and commitment inspire us all. 🌟👏

Join us in Halifax for the 8th annual ViaYOUTH Summit!
We’re excited to offer a special discount for individual local youth to attend this event. If you’re a Halifax youth between the ages of 18-29 and interested in connecting with other like-minded leaders from across Canada, reach out to us for more information!
Our hope for youth during our annual ViaYOUTH Summit is that they each have the opportunity to show up as their most authentic selves. In order for this to happen, they must learn to trust those around them and feel safe.
Creating a safe space is a crucial part of building trust. This is especially true in relationships, whether personal or professional. When people feel safe and comfortable expressing themselves, they are more likely to open up and be honest about their thoughts and feelings. This, in turn, can lead to a deeper level of understanding and connection between individuals.
Trust is an essential component at the ViaYOUTH Summit, where we only have three days to connect. Despite this challenge, the summit is unique in its ability to foster an environment where young people feel safe and comfortable with each other. This allows for genuine connections to develop quickly, enabling attendees to open up and be themselves in a short amount of time.
