If you are a UBC student who is interested in digital media, communications and/or software development, we are looking for four new WorkLearn students to join our team!
We’re have positions for a Digital Communications Assistant, Language Reclamation Project Assistant, Language Reclamation Engineer and Student Operations Engineer.

Zoe Chung (she/her/hers): Language Reclamation Project Assistant
Zoe is a third year undergraduate student majoring in Speech Sciences and minoring in Special Education. Her current interests lie in how people use language in spontaneous speech and in how language recordings can contribute to language revitalization efforts within a community. In her position as a Language Reclamation Project Assistant, she focuses on the documentation and organization of files related to the endangered Indigenous language Kwak̓wala.
Valery Angelique (she/her/hers): Operations Engineer
Valery is a third year Science student majoring in computer science. At CEDaR, she works as an Operations Engineer on the data management team, where her responsibilities include writing scripts to automate tasks, conducting user tests and further expedite processes so that other CEDaR projects can benefit from it.

Here are two of our WorkLearn students!
Indy Sowy (she/her/hers): Operations Engineer
Indy is a second year student in the faculty of Arts. As an Operations Engineer at CEDaR, she is part of the team working on designing and implementing the data management system infrastructure for the lab, as well as helping out with its language reclamation project. This includes writing and executing automation scripts, whether it be for transferring information between its website interface and database or for converting and translating language files, as well as conducting user testing for its new website.
Aarthi Krishnan Sharma (she/her/hers): Digital Engagement Assistant
Aarthi is in her third year in the Bachelor of Media Studies program, with a minor in Asian Area Studies. With her background, she is particularly interested in the representation and works of minorities in new and digital media. At CEDaR, Aarthi is responsible for planning, creating and posting social content, and monitoring our social channels (if you ever DM us, she will probably answer!).

Sara MacLellan (she/her/hers): Coordinator and Project Manager
Sara was born and raised in N’Swakamok/Sudbury, ON on the traditional lands of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory, and is of mixed Polish, Ukrainian, Irish, and French settler ancestry. She is particularly interested in community-led approaches to art and culture that reflect on the complexities of place, bringing her academic training and background in art history, design, public art commissioning, and community engagement to her work at CEDaR. In her role as CEDaR Coordinator & Project Manager, she manages the ongoing development of CEDaR’s physical and digital infrastructure, oversees operational processes, supports research projects and knowledge exchange initiatives, and helps facilitate collaboration.
Dante Alvaro Cerron Tantalean (he/him/his): Lab Supervisor
Dante is a software engineer by trade with a focus on emerging media. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from UBC, and is passionate about user centered design and computer graphics. He aims to use his knowledge to facilitate the pursuit of software projects at and beyond the University though the CEDaR space.
Looking forward to the upcoming Digital Decolonizing Practices workshop on Jan 27th at 1pm with Nahanee Creative Inc!
