Meet VanArts Photography grad Marcelo Barbosa from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, now living in Lisbon, Portugal (instagram.com/marcelobarbosaphoto). 🌍 Marcelo's time at VanArts was a turning point in his career. Formerly a Civil Engineer with a Master's in Business Administration, he decided to pursue his true passion for photography after a life-changing car accident. At 44, he moved with his wife and golden retriever to Vancouver to attend VanArts.

Marcelo chose VanArts for its comprehensive, hands-on curriculum and supportive instructors who became invaluable mentors. He says their advice was priceless in developing his amazing style. Marcelo graduated as the top student in his class and now incorporates all his professional and personal experiences into his photography, a career that has taken him to almost 200 projects in 37 countries across 5 continents, including Tokyo 🇯🇵, Bishkek 🇰🇬, Baku 🇦🇿, Jerusalem 🇮🇱, Aqaba 🇯🇴, Doha 🇶🇦, Tbilisi 🇬🇪, Harbin 🇨🇳, Colombo 🇱🇰, and Hong Kong 🇭🇰.

Meet Game Art & Design grad José Zapata from Seville, Spain 🇪🇸. After completing his business degree, José discovered VanArts and the thriving VFX industry in Vancouver. Although the program can be taken online, he moved to Vancouver to study in person, captivated by the city's beauty.

After graduation, José returned to Spain but was soon recommended by his VanArts classmate Raja Ghosh (instagram.com/rajafwa) for an incredible job at Remedy Games in Finland as an Environment Artist. José emphasizes the importance of working with fellow students who share the same goals, as these connections are crucial for career growth. Many classmates, including José, landed their first jobs through VanArts instructors.

José's intensive experience at VanArts created lifelong bonds, reinforcing the power of collaboration and mentorship. He's had an amazing career working on titles like Crossfire and Alan Wake 2, and is currently involved in the top-secret Control 2 project. Growing up, José’s love for gaming blossomed despite his father not allowing computer games at home. An avid reader and lifelong artist, he realized after obtaining his MBA that art was his true calling. Moving to Vancouver to attend VanArts made his dream career a reality. 🎨✨ Check out the incredible journey of 3D Character Animation grad Suresh Padmaraj from Chennai, India! 🌟

Studying at VanArts has brought fantastic results for Suresh. His final short film, "Right or Wrong," was featured on the Canadian Animation Blog, and he secured 4th place in the Character Animation Critique Festival, earning a one-on-one critique from Dreamworks Animator Anand Baid. Suresh is now a Senior Animator at Framestore in Montreal!
Before VanArts, Suresh was an intern and TA at Media Arts & Science College and Picasso Animation in India. Encouraged by VanArts grad Satish Namboodiry, Suresh and his friend Janani Sridhar applied and thrived. Janani now works as a Compositor in Montreal after completing our Visual Effects program.
