If You Love, Love Openly

One day, a young woman approached her Zen master and said, "I am in love with someone, but I am afraid to tell them. What should I do?" The Zen master replied, "If you love, love openly." The young woman was taken aback by this answer and asked, "But what if they don't love me back? What if they reject me?" The Zen master replied, "Love is not about getting something in return. It is about giving freely and openly from the heart. If you truly love someone, you must be willing to risk rejection and heartache. But even if your love is not reciprocated, you will have lived authentically and with courage."

The young woman pondered the Zen master's words and realized that he was right. She realized that she had been holding back her feelings out of fear of rejection, but in doing so, she was denying herself and the other person the chance to experience the beauty of love. So, she mustered up the courage to tell the person how she felt. It wasn't easy, but she spoke from her heart and expressed her love openly and honestly.

To her surprise, the person reciprocated her feelings, and they started a beautiful relationship based on mutual love and respect. Even if the outcome had been different, the young woman knew that she had lived in alignment with her true self and had expressed her love openly and authentically. From that day forward, she lived by the Zen master's words and continued to love openly, without fear or reservation, and in doing so, she found a deep sense of fulfillment and joy in her life.
