Here is a service that is so close to my heart. Samantha Bull is the most wonderful midwife a person and family could ask for. I should know, Sam was our midwife for all my three births and 4 pregnancies.
If you need the most wonderful care… reach out to her. There is no other like Sam.

Time to talk...do we have enough?

I have worked in the NHS for 18 years. I love what I do as a midwife, but I don't feel like I always can provide the care that I want to due to time restrictions.

When I qualified in Women's health massage I knew I wanted to give women time to talk before the "hands on" part of the treatment.

It means the world to me that I can provide the space and time to truly listen to what my clients want to say.

It makes me feel like I am providing an excellent service to my women, which can be very difficult in the NHS.

If you are trying to conceive you may not want to talk to your nearest and dearest about how frustrating and heartbreaking you are finding it.

If you are pregnant you may feel like you can't have all of your questions answered as you only have a short period of time with your midwife.

If you are suffering with menopausal symptoms you may not feel comfortable talking about your changes in identity with those around you.

So that's where I come in. I am here for you. Because I truly care about providing a space for you to feel heard.

How many businesses get 1000% recommendation!!!
Very pleased to be part of my local community.

I have mostly been silent of late as I have lost a lot of mojo with social media (I was never it’s biggest fan and felt it was a business must).
But today I am here to wish peace to the parents and families in Chester who are going through indescribable horror and pain.
I may know some of you and my own maternity journey between 2014 and 2020 at the means this whole nightmare has been too close to the bone for me.
I wish you peace
I wish you space
I wish you light ahead

If you need my support, I am here.

These stats are sobering. It’s important we talk about what is clearly more than an isolated issue.

Posted • **Trigger warning**
There is new data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) on the rate of stillbirths in the UK.

We spoke to Aamna Mohdin from the Guardian about our thoughts on targeted care and getting to the root of the issue to address these inequalities and statistics we see far too often. The link can be found in our stories and under the “features” highlight for future reference.

If you are affected by any of the topics raised, please go to our website to access our resources and extra help.

Journey into shoulder stand

This is an 11 (6+5) week course for anyone who is interested in beginning their love affair with inversions (sort of upside down view).
Starts 10th Jan - March 28 2023

Shoulder stands are a great introduction to inversions and require a decent level of core strength to get right. There are also quite a few levels of should stands that can be challenging so even if you have a good foundation you might find a level of challenge that you can work towards.

The hope is that by committing to mastering a shoulder stand with me you will build functional core strength and flexibility for your day-to-day living over the weeks too.
Because we are going to build towards a shoulder stand I would appreciate if you can commit to the whole journey as this will not be a drop-in style class. There will be postures that we will have to master on the way to a should stand in the preceeding weeks. This was how I was originally taught inversions back in India and I still think it is the way to go rather than just throw in a should stand in a regular class.

The weekly class will look and feel like a general yoga class with various different postures. But all these will aim to build your strength and flexibility for a should stand. The class is 40 minutes long each week and we will end with a small breath based reflective element.

In this course I will also provide you with some notes and journalling prompts to help you keep stock of your progress. It will not be compulsory but helpful to anyone who wishes to engage in the programme in that way.

There are no major pre-requisites to this class other than a commitment and an openness to give it a go. You also don't need any prior yoga experience or any level of strength and flexibility for this course (that's what we are going to build in the class!).
As long as you are not pregnant then do come along.

🧘🏻‍♀️🧘🧘🏽‍♂️

I have been constantly asked to do a “general” yoga class for all women. And in all honesty, I want to do a spot of yoga myself! 🧘🏽‍♂️

So starting 26th Nov I have managed to squeeze in a super early Saturday morning 40-min yoga class. 🥳

💪Think of this as more of an “exercise” class that brings all the strength and flexibility that yoga gives. 💪

If you are up for it then head to MummyYoga website and class schedule.

(This is not for pregnant ladies. Pregnancy yoga class is soon after at 8:45 am till 9:30 am on Saturdays now too).

Posted • Gestational diabetes is the most commonly diagnosed metabolic disorder during pregnancy and pregnant women are often given advice on diet and medication to control it.

In the October issue of The Practising Midwife journal, Dr Rehana Jawadwala () shares why she believes women are missing out on a powerful and fairly low-cost intervention - physical activity.

In our Article of the Month, Rehana discusses how research evidence suggests that physical activity could become one of the foremost strategies to employ when it comes to pregnancy care and the risks of gestational diabetes (GD). Rehana shares current guidance and why physical exercise may be a method to both prevent and manage GD, sharing helpful tips on what pregnant women can do in practical terms.

I really enjoyed writing this one.

We love comparisons with any fruit or cute hamsters! So I had to share this. 😀

Today I am re-sharing the one sentence from "Inducing Labour: making informed decisions" which has received more attention than any other.

Because I have long been hearing from women, midwives and birth workers about how this issue affects them.

In fact, this is such a big (no pun intended) issue that I devoted a whole chapter of “In Your Own Time” to big babies.

It’s called, “Does my baby look big in this?”

And yesterday I shared a blog post about induction for big babies. If you missed that, its at https://www.sarawickham.com/articles-2/induction-for-big-baby/

So here's my hamster, as a reminder of the importance of getting lots of good information before making any birth-related decision.

No matter whether that's about induction of labour, whether or not to be in a research trial or who's going to look after the hamster on the big day.

If you'd like to know more, you can find out about induction of labour and both of my books on this topic at www.sarawickham.com/iol
