Ankle Stability 🦢

Ankle stability is crucial for movement and balance, playing a vital role in athletic performance and everyday activities. Want to know more about the ankle & ankle stability? πŸ€”πŸ₯Έ

- The ankle joint is stabilized by a complex network of ligaments, including the lateral ligaments (anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament, and posterior talofibular ligament) and the deltoid ligament on the medial side. These ligaments prevent excessive movement and maintain the joint's integrity.

- Muscles surrounding the ankle, such as the peroneals, tibialis anterior, and calf muscles, contribute significantly to ankle stability by providing dynamic support during movement.

-Proprioception, the body's ability to sense joint position and movement, is critical for ankle stability. It helps the body respond to changes in terrain and maintain balance.

- Strengthening exercises, balance training, and proprioceptive exercises can help prevent ankle injuries by improving stability.

- The subtalar joint, located below the ankle joint, allows for inversion and eversion movements of the foot, contributing to overall ankle stability.

The ankle is a complex part of the body and stability is important in keeping the body feeling good and moving well! Have any questions for our team about the body? Pop them in the comments below πŸ‘‡

The first two vertebrae at the top of the spine are named atlas and axis. The atlas supports the skull and allows for nodding movements (like saying "yes"), while the axis allows for rotation of the head (like saying "no").

Post-massage tips:😎

Hydration is Key: After a deep tissue massage, it's important to drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins released from the muscles (we posted about these earlier in the month). Hydration supports the body's natural detoxification process and can help prevent soreness.

Post-Massage Tenderness: After a deep tissue massage, it's common to experience some soreness or tenderness, similar to the feeling after a strenuous workout. Gentle stretching, and applying ice packs can help alleviate any discomfort.

Movement: keep moving! We don't recommend a hard workout after a massage, however a gentle walk is great and try to avoid sitting for long periods of time.

Ask Questions: if you have any questions for your clinician be sure to ask them at the end of your appointment or by contacting the clinic!

During the day, the spine compresses slightly due to gravity and the body's upright posture. That's why astronauts returning from space missions can be up to 2 inches taller initially; without gravity's constant pressure, the spine elongates. πŸ‘½πŸ‘©β€πŸš€πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€πŸ§‘β€πŸš€

The Spine πŸ€“

Bony Protection: The vertebrae of the spine are not just individual bones; they form a protective canal for the spinal cord. This bony structure shields the delicate nerves of the spinal cord from injury.

Strong but Flexible: While the spine is strong enough to support the weight of the body and withstand significant forces, it's also remarkably flexible. It can bend, twist, and flex in multiple directions, thanks to its complex arrangement of bones, ligaments, and muscles.

Different Curves: The spine has natural curves that help distribute weight and absorb shock. There are four main curves: cervical (neck), thoracic (upper back), lumbar (lower back), and sacral (pelvic). These curves provide stability and flexibility.
