Louise Day Speech and Language Therapy
Children's speech therapist helping non speaking children express themselves. I am an independent speech and language therapist and mum of two.
I am passionate about helping non speaking children express themselves with ease and joy. I want to help parents on their journey navigating how to help their child and see progress.
Amazing podcast with Fern Brady covering masking, school, late diagnosis, relationships, female autistic experience. Just incredible.
There are literally thousands of sensory items for sale nowadays which is great, however it can get a little confusing š«¤
I have put together a webpage with links to sensory equipment which has been recommended by families I work with. These are their 'best buys' or sensory 'must haves'! I have also included the sensory equipment I use with my own children.
I hope you find it helpful! If you have a piece of sensory equipment at home that your child couldn't live without then please do send me the link and I'll add it to the webpage š

Edinburgh mum on 'chaos' of caring for son with additional support needs Louise Day says that many families with children who live with additional support needs can suffer from being unable to relax or go on family holidays as parents often have to take on reduce hours to care for their kids.

A big thank you to everyone who has came along and gave us such great feedback.

We have also created a STAND Dundee WhatsApp group, please send us a message or comment on this post if you are in the area and would like to be added.

This looks great.
Do you have a non speaking child?
Maybe your child has some spoken words but youāre not sure how to help them progress?
Youāve tried strategies suggested to you to help your childās language but they donāt seem to be making a difference.
Youāre worried youāre missing something and want to know youāre doing all you can to help your child.
Iām going to be covering tools to help your child with their communication which will reduce frustration and create more ease between you.
You will learn about how your child learns language and their learning style and how best to support this.
Youāll also be able to connect with other parents and share experiences.
Iāve supported families of autistic children and children with communication needs for 16 years. Iāve learnt the dos and donāts and have the up to date evidence based information.
Iād love to have you along for this unique experience.

Iām happy to answer any questions. Really excited to offer this unique opportunity for parents.
So often we hear negative language about Autism.
Letās reframe. Letās not frame it from a neurotypical perspective. Letās understand and see it from an Autistic personās point of view.
We need more Autism acceptance. Language is one change we can make.

I spoke about masking yesterday. What it is and how to notice signs in your child.
Here are some strategies to help your child.
Every child is different. Sometimes it is hard to have the conversation with your child about masking and it can be a difficult concept to describe. Being aware as a parent is the first step, informing those around your child what their masking may look like and how an adult can support your child and be their safe person.
Like, share, comment. Iād love to hear your thoughts.
Masking - what is it? What does it look like?
Have you heard of it before?
It is common in neurodivergent people (autistic, ADHD, anxiety)
Iād like to thank the amazing team who created the Neurobears course for the content on masking. Also Emily Lees and Elaine McGreevy, speech and language therapists.
Just some ablelist comments Iāve heard about children recently including my own.
Our children deserve understanding, compassion and our kids do need exceptions made for them. Yes, they may need boundaries but they find life a lot harder. Weāre not giving in weāre supporting them with their emotions and choosing which battle to pick. We canāt fight every one.
Which of these have you heard?
