Absolutely, best of luck to Stuart in the Trans Alba Race 2024! Covering over 1000 miles is an incredible challenge, and we’re all rooting for him as he takes on this epic journey. With number 26, Go, Stuart, go! 🚴‍♂️

Edinburgh residents can now get a discount on our guided bike tours of the city, using their own bikes or one of our standard bikes or e-bikes. It’s a fun and environmentally friendly way to see parts of the city even locals may not be familiar with! 😊

Head over to the Forever Edinburgh website to find out more. 🚲

Yesterday afternoon, we organised a fam trip for our friends at VisitScotland, the Tourist Information Centre, Rabbie’s, Headwater Holidays, Spectra DMC and JacTravel. We did a guided bike tour of Edinburgh – we cycled through the New Town, before heading down to Leith, then along the coast to Portobello, before returning back into town via Holyrood Park, the Innocent Railway Tunnel and the Meadows. 🚲

The tour ended at the lovely restaurant in Bruntsfield, where we enjoyed an evening of amazing Italian food and drinks. 🥂🍕🍝

Yesterday, we asked how many buckets of water our followers think we use on a weekly basis to clean our bikes (we have 34 bikes in total). 🚲

The answer is that we only use 1 bucket of water on average each week to clean our bikes! 🪣

Our tours don’t create dirty bikes, so brushing them off is usually sufficient, and it means that we save on water as part of our commitment to sustainable tourism and being as environmentally friendly as possible. ♻️

Exciting news - we are so proud to announce that we have achieved a Green Tourism Silver Award! 🥳

It means that our efforts to offer tours that are as sustainable as possible – environmentally, socially and economically - have been recognised by a world-leading third-party accreditation. ♻️

Well done to the whole team at Ricky’s Bicycle Tours, and a massive thank you to the team for supporting us on this journey!

We will continue to set new sustainability goals and develop new products to ensure we continue to be as sustainable as we possibly can. In the meantime, you can be confident that when you go on one of our tours, you are supporting and !

We usually stop for a short break at a café on our guided bike tours of Edinburgh, so our guests can enjoy some coffee or tea. 🫖☕️🚲

We always stop at locally owned cafes that source their food and drink locally, to make sure we support the local community.

One of our favourite cafés in Edinburgh is the Leith Community Croft – we love their ethos of building community and food growing, and making healthy food and nature accessible to the people of Leith.

It also helps that they have a lovely menu of sweet treats and vegan / vegetarian food, and we can never say no to their lovely cakes. 🍰😋

If you haven’t discovered the Leith Community Croft yet – check them out next time you find yourself in Leith!

The most common question we are asked is how do we transport all the bikes to and from our departure point - let us show you!

Yesterday we were joined by a few lovely representatives from AC Group, ASA, TourDesk, the Edinburgh Tourist Information Centre and Visit Scotland on a fam trip of Edinburgh.

Along the way, we stopped at the amazing Leith Community Cafe for some much needed sustenance. ☕️🍰

It was a lovely afternoon, experiencing our guided bike tours of Edinburgh. 🚲

Exploring Edinburgh on a guided bike tour is one of the most environmentally friendly sightseeing options available to visitors, but the team at Ricky’s Bicycle Tours are also committed to responsible and sustainable tourism in all other areas of the business.

For example, we vet our suppliers to ensure they have sustainability policies and ethical business practices in place, we reuse and recycle everything we use, we support local businesses, for example by only stopping at locally owned cafés as part of our tours, and we visit lesser-known areas on our guided bike tours.

Responsible tourism has always been part of our ethos and we thought it would be nice to have this recognised, so we have recently started the Green Tourism accreditation process, and we are currently awaiting our grading.

If you are not familiar with Green Tourism, it is the world’s largest sustainable certification programme of its kind, and they have been delivering sustainability accreditation and support for the tourism sector for over 25 years.

Having a Green Tourism award means that when you book one of our guided bike tours in Scotland, you can be confident that you are contributing to protecting the environment and supporting the local community in Edinburgh.

Its Reviews Day Tuesday! We welcomed the wonderful Sue and Ralph from Phoenix, Arizona and had a great few hours on our guided bike tour of Edinburgh. They especially liked getting out of the city and down to the coast, which is always a highlight...and yes, there is usually at least one person taking a dip in the water 😮 Thanks guys, it was a pleasure having you with us! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

❤️ Happy Valentines Day! ❤️

There is no doubt that Edinburgh, and Scotland in general, is one of the greatest romantic destinations on Earth.

The architecture, the atmosphere and the great history make for the perfect romantic getaway! We welcome many couples on our guided bike tours, looking for a great way to see the city and beyond and we know they have a fantastic time sharing the time together.

We'd like to wish a very Happy Valentines Day to everyone, all over the world. We hope you have a lovely day and are looking forward to or remembering your trip to Edinburgh ❤️

It’s very rare that we get snow in Edinburgh, which makes it the perfect city to cycle in at any time of the year, but when we do get snow, Edinburgh looks possibly even more beautiful than usual.

What do you prefer, Edinburgh in summer or winter? ☀️❄️

Swipe to the end to see some feedback on one of our winter tours – a guided bike tour really is the best way to see Edinburgh in our opinion. 🚲

Last week, we asked our followers on Instagram what their favourite place in Scotland is, and the results are in!

Do you agree with the result? Would you have voted differently?

Did you know that at Ricky’s Bicycle Tours, we guarantee that your tour goes ahead, as we don’t have a minimum number policy? So even if you are the only person who has booked one of our guided bike tours, the tour will still run.

It doesn’t happen very often, and we may contact you to let you know you would be the only traveller and give you the option to switch to another time if you prefer company – but if you are happy with it, the tour goes ahead.

This means that you don’t have to worry about any disappointing last-minute cancellations due to minimum numbers, and you can be confident that if you book with us, you will go on a tour.

We would only ever cancel a tour due to extraordinary circumstances that are beyond our control, or if there are safety concerns – not because of low numbers.

Well folks, that's a wrap on the year 2023 and we have had such a fantastic time guiding our guests! As we all know life isn't always smooth sailing and the last few years at Ricky's Bicycle Tours have been a challenge. Obviously the pandemic negatively effected everyone and we have also dealt with our fair share of personal illness and injury but what a year 2023 turned out to be!

We love our job in this magnificent country but what really makes it, is our excellent guests from all over the world. Your kindness, enthusiasm and adventurous spirit is what makes our guided bike tours so much fun.

So, whether you joined us for a ride in the city, a Highland tour, or a custom private adventure, thank you and we hope 2024 is full of fun and happiness for everyone!

We are often asked exactly where our meeting point is for our guided bike tour, and we say "right in front of the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Hotel".

It is very central in the city and provides a spectacular starting point for our Edinburgh city tours!

However, this well loved and instantly recognisable building wasn't always just an excellent hotel...

Why not give them the gift of an activity instead of something that will gather dust on a shelf or be thrown in a drawer somewhere…?

A gift card for a guided bike tour of Edinburgh is the perfect Christmas present – it’s an environmentally friendly way to see the city, you would be supporting a local business, and it’s a great way to explore the beautiful city of Edinburgh, both the iconic landmarks but also off the beaten path.

Make sure to share this post with your friends and followers who are struggling to come up with gift ideas (especially if this is something you would like for Christmas yourself… 😉)

Happy St Andrew’s Day to all of our followers around the world!

Did you know that St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, and it is his cross that gives us our national flag, the Saltire? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The Scottish Saltire was conceived in 832AD, making it the oldest flag in Europe. It depicts the St Andrews Cross as it appeared in the sky above a battle which united Picts and Scots to create what we now call Scotland!

St Andrew’s Day is the perfect excuse to enjoy some whisky, haggis and shortbread or even book a trip to Scotland for yourself.

We thank each and every one of our guests so far and look forward to welcoming many more in the future.
