Scottish Women’s Aid is the lead organisation in Scotland working towards the prevention of domestic abuse. We play a vital role coordinating, influencing and campaigning for effective responses to domestic abuse.
We work with a network of 33 specialist local Women’s Aid groups toward a shared vision of a Scotland where domestic abuse is not tolerated.
What do we do?
Since we were set up in 1976 Scottish Women’s Aid has been at the forefront of shaping responses to domestic abuse in Scotland. We are proud of the work that we do with a wide range of partners to achieve change here in Scotland, across the UK and internationally.
We work with police and prosecutors, politicians, the children’s sector, other agencies and the public in Scotland. Visit our Working For Change page to find out more about what we do here and across the world.
Scottish Women’s Aid and the Women’s Aid network
In 2016, Scottish Women’s Aid celebrated 40 years of supporting and advocating for the Women’s Aid network. Scottish Women’s Aid was set up in 1976 by the then 7 (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire) local Women’s Aid groups to provide support, make the network bigger and increase the number of refuges available for women and children experiencing domestic abuse. Today, Scottish Women’s Aid is the national office of the Women’s Aid network, and our national work continues to be rooted in the local work to support women, children and young people with experience of domestic abuse. The network now consists of 33 independent local Women’s Aid charities who provide high quality specialist services and who commit each year to a shared set of principles.
Being a member organisation makes Scottish Women’s Aid strong – we work to maintain a mutually supportive, listening, and learning network – recognising and celebrating the expertise of our members.

We're nearing our petition goal, just 2,000 signatures away! If you've already signed, please share it with your friends and family to help Mel achieve a safer family court system.
Every day, family court orders are putting women and children at risk by forcing them into contact with dangerous abusers, sometimes making the court experience as traumatic as the abuse itself.
That's why Melanie Brown MBE is urging the Judicial College to implement compulsory ongoing training in collaboration with experts like Women's Aid.
Join Melanie by signing and sharing our petition because children's safety must always come first. https://ow.ly/9w7450RlltQ ➡️
