October 31 - The Battle of Britain ended 84 years ago today. We are proud to commemorate the sacrifice made by all those who defended our skies in 1940. The Memorial is dedicated to the heroic and selfless deeds of the men who won the Battle of Britain. As a charity, the Trust depends on donations, shop and café sales and Scramble Experience visits for its existence. Please give generously when visiting this tribute to the Few – it costs £240,000 a year to keep it doing the great job it does.
We have an online donation page that makes it easy for supporters to contribute to the Memorial - donate here: https://battle-of-britain-memorial-trust.raisely.com
A fascinating double bill of documentary films by Kent's own Peter Williams was the latest in this autumn's series of free Sunday afternoon events at The Wing.
The audience enjoyed two impressive works by the award-winning filmmaker, with 'They Fought the Few' followed after a short interval by 'Martha Gellhorn: On the Record', both of which made for fascinating viewing.
There are limited seats available for this event, which begins at 2pm, so please book in advance by calling 01303 249292 or emailing [email protected].

This week's update from Dom Pound's replica project:
"The Hurricane of FO Percival Burton 249 Sqdn and the Spitfire of FO Peter Pease 603 Sqdn are progressing well. Both have had control cables and gun button cables added and cockpit areas are now complete. The Hurricane is ready for airbrushing and the Spitfire should follow suit soon after. Anyone with any questions or details regarding the project, please contact me directly on Facebook."
Join us at 2pm on Sunday 3 November when John Willis, documentary film maker, author and long-time supporter of the Memorial, will talk about, and sign copies of, his latest book, ‘Fighter Boy – The Many Lives of Geoffrey Page OBE, DSO, DFC and Bar’. It was Geoffrey Page, shot down and badly burned during the Battle of Britain, who later persuaded a group of people – the embryonic Battle of Britain Memorial Trust – to commission the National Memorial to the Few at Capel-le-Ferne in honour of his fellow airmen.
The airman statue remains at the heart of the Memorial to this day, while the replica Hurricane at the site is painted in the colours of the aircraft in which Page, then a Pilot Officer, was shot down. He was treated for his burns by the legendary pioneering surgeon Archie McIndoe, making him one of his legendary ‘guinea pigs’.
There are limited seats available for this event, so you must book in advance by calling 01303 249292 or emailing [email protected]
Entry is free, although donations are welcomed. Nominal parking charges apply.

On 3 October, Cleverly & Spencer Monumental Masons made the amendments and additions to the CF- N Wall. They engraved 54 incised letters to match the existing inscription on the wall, including 6 new additional names, such as Sir Keith Park and the latest known as one of “The Few”, R. Thomson. They also had to fill and paint 21 letters which were engraved incorrectly back in 2005 when the wall was unveiled. ✈️

Model maker and Battle of Britain enthusiast Dom Pound is meticulously crafting a hyper-realistic scale model of the Hurricane in which Pilot Officer Geoffrey Page was shot down, specifically for the Memorial ✈️
Here’s an update from Dom on the project so far 💬: "October will see several models receive further finishing touches. There have been some questions over the 'green' and the lighter colour is due to weathering with water, therefore I decided to finish a batch build and then use oils to bring the darker tone back, but leaving a more weathered finish as per aircraft in the Battle of Britain! The memorial's model will be started and progress will be included in the next update along with a build for Hornchurch Heritage Museum and Kent Battle of Britain Museum."
Stay tuned for more updates on Dom's project!
