It is with regret and sadness that we shall be cancelling the Trawler Race this year due to a lack of funding. We have made the decision to save what funds we have already and apply to other funding avenues so we can put on a spectacular event for the Trawler Race's 50th Anniversary in 2025. It has been a difficult decision, but we can not deliver this year's event effectively and safely. We hope you understand our situation, and you will continue to support this event highlighting our fishing heritage and supporting our fishermen. We look forward to next year and will be releasing a date for you all shortly to put in your diaries. At Folkestone Rescue, we're proud of our vigilant volunteers who keep an eye on Sunny Sands, ensuring your safety. It’s crucial to understand that our beautiful beach is fully tidal, which means that for a portion of the day, both the beach itself and the archways beneath the promenade can become submerged.

Please prioritize your safety: As you enjoy your day by the sea, be mindful of the tide times. It’s essential to leave the beach and exit the tunnels, moving up to the safety of the promenade well before the tide comes in.

🐶 We will be trialling a range of ways to help dog walkers find the paw-fect spot this summer.

🏖️ Although seasonal beach restrictions are in place from today (1 May), there is still an abundance of coastline and countryside that can be enjoyed by dogs and their owners during the warmer months.

🪧 Banners, posters, and stencils will be used, with particular attention being paid to areas that have caused confusion in the past.

Our 2023 Callouts and Responses

As we step into the new year, it's important for us to take a moment to reflect on the challenges and triumphs of the past year. Our commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring the safety of our shores in 2023. We want to share a summary of our activities and interventions during this time.

Incident Responses:

👶 Missing Children: We responded to 5 cases involving missing children, mobilizing our resources to locate and ensure their safe return to their families.

🧑‍🧒 Missing Adult: One incident involving a missing adult was reported, and our team promptly engaged in search and rescue efforts, ultimately leading to a successful outcome.

🛥️ Rescued Casualties: Amidst perilous situations, we rescued 8 individuals, providing timely assistance and ensuring their well-being.

🩹 First Aid: Our team administered essential first aid in 15 instances, offering immediate medical attention and care to those in need.

🛟 Prevented Rescues: Proactive measures were taken to prevent 36 potential rescue situations, emphasizing the importance of preemptive safety measures and public awareness.

🔥 Fires Extinguished: Responding not only to water-related emergencies but also to broader community needs, we extinguished 3 fires, minimizing damage and safeguarding lives and property.

🚫 Anti-social Behavior: In collaboration with local authorities, we addressed 21 incidents of anti-social behavior, fostering a safer environment for all beachgoers and residents.

Other Incidents: Additionally, we handled 11 other incidents, demonstrating our versatility and readiness to tackle diverse challenges that arise.

In Total: Our Team Responded to 100 recorded incidents throughout the year

Qualsafe - First Response In Emergency Care Level 3

Landslide Update - Sunny Sands Beach at 13:45.

At 13:45 today a landslide was reported at the sunny sands beach to our team by a member of the public. The area around it has been cordoned off to maintain public safety and this has been reported to the council and local coastguard team.

Please can we ask members of the public to stay outside of the cordon while the council assess and make plans to ensure the area is safe.

We have been made aware of a layer of debris that has been dragged onto Sunny sands beach as a result of storm Ciaran.

If you visit the beach tomorrow or over the next few days please use a little caution and report any dangerous debris to the council .

WEATHER WARNING - Please stay away from the coast today, the beaches and harbour area are being impacted by very high winds and should be considered a very dangerous place to go. Please stay safe.

Emergency Service Show - 19th & 20th September

This past Tuesday, 19th September, the dedicated volunteer crew from Folkestone Rescue had the privilege of attending the "Emergency Service Show". We were truly impressed by the innovative lifesaving and medical equipment showcased for 2023. 🚑🔍

Engaging conversations flowed throughout the day with esteemed companies such as SPServices, British Transport Police, Qualsafe, Life Pak, and several others. Their insights, training and products will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in our life-saving missions ahead.

A special shout-out to the NILA (National Independent Lifeboat Association) stall! 🛥️ As one of its proud founding members, it was an honor to stop by and show our unwavering support.

In a nutshell, our day was packed with fun, learning, and productive exchanges. We're already counting down to next year's show! Thanks to everyone who made this experience memorable. 🙌🌊
