βHeartbreaking statisticsβ reveal su***de rate is rising in Scotland.
Statistic for deaths by su***de for 2019 have just been released and they reveal a very sad picture:
- In 2019, 833 su***des were registered in Scotland (620 males and 213 females), compared to 784 in 2018.
- This is a 6.25% rise from the previous year.
- Itβs the highest annual total recorded since 889 deaths in 2011.
More than 2 people per day in Scotland are dying by su***de.
The figures, produced by Public Health Scotland, show the number of people who took their own lives across the Highlands in 2019 was 67 β the third highest in Scotland behind only Glasgow and Edinburgh.
And behind every statistic is a life and heart broken family and friends.
We have so much work to do to reverse this trend.
We all need to work together to raise awareness about su***de prevention, and about mental health. We can all play a part in helping support those who need it.
Please, let's all keep talking. If you feel sad, talk to someone. If you are worried about someone, please talk to them. Asking for help takes courage.

This week is Children's Mental Health Week!
Being a child or young person can be overwhelming at the best of times. And these days it's even tougher - with the pressures of social media, exams, day to day homelife, seperation, wanting to have the "right things", stress over popularity and trying to fit in... there's so much for them to worry about and those worries and anxieties can start from a very early age.
This is a great image from Mental Fills Counseling Tools! It's a great reminder of the practical things that as grown ups we can do to help our children feel secure and loved and to help them to be and remain mentally healthy.
I learnt this at training yesterday π‘ Even the trainer can learn new things! πͺβ¨π
π
On World Mental Health Day remember that it's ok to not be ok and that there is always a listening ear to be found........never be afraid to reach out
