Hello lovelies π Just to let you know that I'm unavailable this week.
PRIDE MONTH π
Many of my beady-eyed patients have noticed that I wear a pride flag badge on my uniform; since it's pride month, I thought it would be the perfect time to explain why!
For me, this badge represents a commitment to providing compassionate and non-judgmental care to EVERY patient, REGARDLESS of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, age, or any other characteristic.
π€β€π§‘ππππ
I believe that everyone deserves equal respect and care, and I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at Pop-up Podiatry. π₯°
Unfortunately, many members of the LGBTQIA+ community face barriers when accessing healthcare due to fear of discrimination or lack of understanding. π
In Scotland, 44% of LGBTQIA+ individuals have reported feeling uncomfortable or not safe seeking healthcare due to their sexual orientation or gender identity (LGBT Youth Scotland, 2018). This is unacceptable, and as a healthcare professional, I want to do my part to change that. ππ£
I hope that by wearing this badge, I can help to break down barriers and promote a more inclusive and accepting healthcare environment. π
If you have any questions or suggestions on how I can improve inclusivity at Pop-up Podiatry, please don't hesitate to reach out.π

The Highland Charter is a pledge to put climate, nature, and the benefits of green and blue health at the centre of decision-making and action, so that the natural environment and people have improved health, wellbeing, and resilience. It builds upon the previous Climate Charter by bringing together three elements that are essential for the wellbeing of the planet and people. π
When you sign the charter, you commit to take at least one action that is positive for the climate, nature and health.
We will report back every year on how we are being accountable in terms of these commitments. π

π£ Tip number 4 for Foot Health Week π£
β¨ Don't neglect your feet - Check them daily for optimal foot health! β¨
I can't stress enough the importance of regular foot checks for our patients. By taking just a few minutes each day to inspect your feet (or get someone to help check them for you), you can catch potential issues before they become major problems.
Look for breaks in the skin and skin changes.
Remember, your feet are the foundation of your body, and it's essential to keep them healthy and happy. Stay proactive and prioritise your foot health by incorporating daily foot checks into your routine. And if you notice any concerning symptoms, don't hesitate to reach out to our team for expert advice and care.
π£ Tip number 3 for Foot Health Week! π£
Don't forget to dry between your toes after showering or bathing! π¦
If you struggle to do this yourself, see if a kind family member or carer can do it for you π
Ensuring that your toes are properly dried is important for maintaining healthy feet and preventing various foot problems.
Moisture between the toes can create a breeding ground for fungus (Athlete's foot) and an increased risk of bacterial infection if there are any breaks in your skin which can lead to sepsis! π¬
β
οΈAdditionally, surgical spirit can be used to help to dry out the skin on the feet, which can be beneficial for reducing excess moisture between the toes.
By thoroughly drying between your toes, you can reduce the risk of these infections and keep your feet feeling fresh and comfortable. So next time you step out of the shower, take a moment to give your toes some extra attention and keep them happy and healthy! β¨ π
π£ Tip number 2 for Foot Health Week! π£
Did you know that the right footwear plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy feet?
Firstly, I want to debunk some myths about shoes:
βοΈYou shouldn't have to 'wear in' shoes, they should be comfortable to wear as soon as you buy them.
βοΈThe best shoes are not always the most expensive.
When looking for suitable shoes, here are a few things to bear in mind:
π Proper fit: Make sure your shoes are long enough, wide enough and deep enough to give your feet plenty of space.
π Adjustable fastening: shoes with laces or velcro help to hold the shoes on your feet instead of your feet trying to grip which can cause clawed toes. It can also reduce friction between the shoe and your skin.
π Cushioning: Choose shoes with sufficient cushioning in the heel and forefoot to absorb impact and reduce pressure on your feet. (This point isn't for everyone as I understand some prefer barefoot type shoes)
π Breathability: Opt for shoes made of breathable materials to prevent moisture buildup and reduce the risk of skin irritations.
π Activity-specific: Consider the type of activity you will be doing and choose shoes that are designed for that purpose, whether it's running, hiking, or everyday wear.
Take care of your feet and they will take care of you. If you need any further footwear advice, get in touch! ππ
π£ Tip number 1 for Foot Health Week π£
Keep your feet healthy and happy by regularly applying cream! Here's why it's a good idea:
π Hydration: keeping your feet moisturised helps to prevent dry, cracked skin and can reduce the risk of infections. Look for creams with urea in for the most effective action.
π Improves circulation: massaging cream into your feet can help improve circulation and blood flow, keeping your feet feeling refreshed.
π Prevents odour: by moisturising your feet, you can reduce the build-up of bacteria that causes odour.
π Relaxation: pamper yourself with a relaxing foot massage while applying cream, providing instant relief and relaxation.
Don't forget to make sure the cream you use is vegan and never tested on animals!π° Superdrug own brand intensive foot cream is an example for you to try π π£
