Although a little bit later than anticipated.. Summer has arrived with a bang!😁☀️as the environment is heating up around us so is our blood and we may begin to feel unbalanced. Excessive heat in our body can manifest through fever, perspiration, clamminess, a raised heartbeat (blood pressure), sore throat, headaches, agitation, flushes or generally just feeling hot! 🔥🔥🔥

So here's some top tips to keep you in balance and clear any excess heat inside body..

💧Firstly hydrate! Drink lots of cool water, which will help keep your body temperature lower.

👍 Secondly, massage LI11 Acupuncture point, known as Qu Chi in Chinese which translates to "Pool at the bend" -can you see why?, It is found on the fold of your elbow. Using your thumb apply gentle pressure in small circular movements for 1-2mins (you can repeat on the other side). This point is brilliant for clearing heat from your system, and one I use regularly with clients who display symptoms of a heat imbalance.

Food is Medicine! I purchased this poster chart a while ago and it has been sat inside its tube waiting for my home clinic to appear (it's on its way I promise!). Today I decided to get it out and look at it, it has now been framed and showcased inside my kitchen... and I'm obsessed! I will certainly be more mindful about the way I eat now in between my own personal Acupuncture treatments.

I am regularly talking to clients about foods they should have/reduce to help build blood and qi as a way to support their treatment and here it is!

March is Endometriosis awareness month, and therefore would like to share with you a Chinese Medicine perspective of this condition, and give awareness to how Acupuncture treatments can help.

Chinese medicine views endometriosis largely as stagnation of blood in the uterus. The blood and endometrium which should be shed cleanly with each period is not done so properly. This leads to the congealing and clotting of the blood in the uterus. As the natural flow is further hindered by this clotting, the endometrial tissue finds its way into areas it shouldn’t causing the problem.

It has recently been reported in Journal of Pain that acupuncture may be useful in the relief of endometriosis pain. See article below;

Endometriosis can take many forms but is often characterised by painful periods with dark menstrual blood and clotting. There may be palpable nodules or masses in the abdomen. Sometimes there are no bothersome symptoms such as pain but a key diagnostic can often be spotting before periods. It can also be indicated by certain patterns in the change of Basal Body Temperature.

Did you know that Endometriosis is one of the main causes of infertility? although the reason for this is still uncertain.

Acupuncture treatments work with the menstrual cycle by moving blood stagnation and increasing Qi (energy) in the area, as qi moves blood, this helps alleviate and prevent the build up of blood stagnating in the uterus.
