I believe that there is a type of yoga for everyone, and that the practice should be accessible and playful.
ON FEAR -
Why do I try so hard?
Why do I hold on so tight?
I fear that if I let go, it will disappear. If I don’t create the outcome, it will never exist. If I don’t make myself valuable, I’ll be alone. If I am not needed, I am nothing. If I’m not doing, I am empty.
I fear space and stillness. I fear stagnation. I fear the things and people I love will not love me back unless they need me.
Need breeds resentment. Want yields love.
Without space, nothing can shift - “paralysed force, gesture without motion
It’s only in letting go that we can know if what we hold is ours to keep.
My patterns make me unknowable. How can we love what we don’t know?
I can sit with discomfort.
I can let go.

Sometimes, to make a change or find a solution, we need to shift our perception. Choice is a powerful tool which acknowledges our own capacity to grow and expand through our reactions to the things that challenge us. Sometimes, it helps me to remind myself to focus on the things that make me smile - like the fact that I may live in a country without AC, but at the end of next week, my tan will be way better than .nwilliams ‘s 🔥😜(not that there’s ever any doubt of that given his unfortunate inheritance of the English Rose gene). Sometimes, to flourish and grow you need to go back to the foundations, to undo as much as to do.
Since connecting to a foundational practice, my shoulders and hamstrings have opened up and finding balance is easier. I always avoided Ashtanga and primary because of the grind of the seated poses, the jump throughs, the repetition. I wanted to handstand and work on forearm stands, to fly and to move more creatively. I still love those things, but I appreciate them more now. Sometimes, it takes an understanding of the structure to appreciate the freedom.

Throwback to being mega Texas, in one of my favourite spots in the USA - the wonderful border town of Brownsville, home to the incomparable , my rocket sister and inspiration and a group of awesome students who stole my heart. To me, multicultural communities represent the best of the USA. As a San Diego girl who grew up speaking Spanglish on the border, Breathe felt immediately like home and I have so much love and respect for Esthela and the beautiful community she has built. Entrepreneurs like her, who show the best of several cultures. make me proud to call the US my first home❤️.
This week is the 4th of July and this year feels a little different with all the disappointing updates coming from my home country. Like many expats, I have some complicated feelings about where I come from, especially as someone who works in travel with many years spent promoting the USA as a tourism destination. Regardless, I have many fond memories of 4th of Julys past, both at home and abroad, and a part of me will always feel homesick on this day.

The last time I was visiting family, my father asked me if yoga was spiritual for me. I answered and told him I always worried that people judged me for choosing this path, that I feel like I’m not fulfilling my potential, and that sometimes I didn’t like telling people I am a yoga teacher. He responded that those who judge don’t understand the yoga❤️
Since our conversation, I find myself contemplating our discussion. Yoga is a spiritual practice for me on many levels, but the most basic answer is that it is a mirror to explore the inner work.
I have often been described as “controlled” or “tense”. I know that I hold on tight to my pain and trauma, hoping that if I keep going, keep it buried, it will disappear like I want it to.
One of the most freeing things about finding ease in poses that I’ve spent years working to unlock is an ability to move into them more intuitively and freely, without expectation. When the pain of loss, heartbreak and tragedy is buried deep in my bones and soul, linking breath and movement in an open exploration of what I feel allows me a safe space to process without fear. Sometimes, the body just wants to move and open without restriction, so the mind can create the space it needs.
A note to myself (and anyone else who needs to hear it): Things are picking back up - summer is in full swing, travel, weddings and parties back on. Amidst the excitement and activity it can be hard not to feel overwhelmed, or even exhausted - after a few years of such constant uncertainty and restriction, the unfettered freedom can be a lot, and can call attention to those issues we didn’t have the space to address previously. In those moments where you feel overwhelmed, it can help to take a moment to root back into your breath and body to reconnect. Your breath is your anchor - the tether of your body to your mind. Sometimes, I feel like I’m turbo charged and I move too fast. Sometimes, I feel like everyone else is moving and I’m stuck, immobile. Some of this is the ADHD, most of it is being human. When I’m stuck, or zooming around, when I feel on the brink of breaking, what helps me to reconnect is coming back to my mat, back to my breath, back to my practice. Forever grateful, even on those days where it feels impossible to get through sun salutes, much less a rocket 3!
Back to it with a few new tricks after learning from the best Rocketeers in BCN and hanging with some awesome yogis at Balance Festival. Hope to see you ❤️

A Mysore style yoga class is an assisted self practice class which allows students to delve deeper into their own practice. Students will work through their own Rocket Yoga self practice, guided and supported by the teacher.
🚀 Rocket 3 (Experienced)
⏰Tuesdays, 2:30 - 4:00 pm
Also known as “Happy Hour” the Rocket III routine can be described as the combination of Rocket I and Rocket II series. It offers both the hard and the soft forms of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in a clear and complete sequence that helps to view the progression of the practice following both master classes. The Rocket 3 offer both soothing forward folds and stimulating backbends in the same class, providing a counter posture practice into one class to leave the student fresh and balanced for their day of rest.

I’ve had the delight of being locked out of my account for 2 weeks, due to Instagram not recognising birth year 1988 as making me over 13. So on the bright side, I’ve had to acknowledge how reliant I’ve become on this platform to advertise my classes and stay in touch with friends all over the world, which has been interesting - and I’ve learned I no longer need to use face cream cause I’m totally super young.
For anyone I’ve not seen yet, I am BACK and while I miss my loves at and more, I’m happy to be back at Indaba Yoga] teaching my full schedule and picking up some covers too.

You can catch me at the beautiful Yoga East Austin teaching Rocket for the final two weeks of March, and as an added bonus, on March 26th I’ll be breaking down some tricky arm balances and transitions, sharing some tips to help make flying more accessible.
I always tell my classes that when I started yoga (and you can ask and to confirm!) I couldn’t step from a down dog to a low lunge without dragging my foot on the mat, and I thought I’d never manage a crow pose, much less a handstand. The beauty of this practice, especially to someone like me who tends more towards strong than flexible, is that you need a balance of both, of strength and of softness, to progress. Everything you see is practice and time on the mat, personal experience which allowed me to find what works for my own body, and it is my privilege to share my journey with you. I hope to see you there!
