!!!TEACHER ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Finally, but definitely not least! We have Earanee and Hong Jie Hsu!!!

Earanee Niedzwiecki (she/her)

Earanee is a Lindy Hop and vernacular jazz dance instructor from Adelaide (‘Tarndanya’ in Kaurna language), Australia, now based in London. A lover of artists like Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong since childhood, Earanee developed a real love for jazz in high school, studying saxophone and later jazz vocals. After graduating, Earanee’s love for jazz transferred to dance, when she discovered Lindy Hop in 2010.
She soon began following her love of jazz dance around the globe, travelling extensively in Australia, Europe and the US before finally moving to Europe to teach dance in 2017. An instructor and DJ with over a decade of experience, and creator of the podcast ‘Women in Jazz’, as a guest in black American jazz dance culture Earanee aims to ground her classes in a respect for this tradition with a focus on history, rhythm, sharing, and encouraging individual creativity and expression.

Jason Hsu (he/him)

"Be sassy and be jazzy!" Freedom of expression characterises Jason's teaching and dancing! Jason will show you not only the ways you can connect to the music and express yourself through improvisation but also how to feel free to do it. That's the main value you will get from Jason! With the background in second-language and cross-cultural pedagogy and theatre training, you will be immersed into an inclusive, safe, and playful journey into learning, not from, but along with him!
Also, a little bit of culture and history won’t harm but enrich the learning experiences, no? Apart from dancing around the world, Jason is bridging the dance experience to the academic field, too. With his current pursuit in a Master's program in Anthropology of Dance, he is working on re-learning Lindy Hop through the lens of q***r study and bringing q***r perspectives to your class!

!!TEACHER ANNOUNCMENT!!

Joining along for our 2024 Sheffield Shuffle: Switching It Up! Is Hannah and Ali! They will be helping teach the Zoomers (Colligated S**g) Stream!

Hannah Dolmansley

Hannah is passionate about sharing the joys of swing dancing. For many years she demonstrated with Sue Freeman, one of the North's most influential lindy hop teachers, absorbing as much of her wonderful dance and teaching skill as possible. She started running Lindy Hop classes in Sheffield in 2015. Soon after, the people of Sheffield called for the addition of Collegiate S**g to the local dance scene. Hannah tentatively dipped a toe into the world of Collegiate S**g and was quickly hooked, eager to share her delight! Together, Hannah and Ali love to explore new concepts, learn more about the history of swing dancing, as well as maximising their joy and connection within the dance. During the pandemic, Hannah spent time developing her clarity of body movement, commitment to the rhythm and how she could teach these in a fun and accessible way.

Ali

Ali has been swing dancing since 2011, when she found Sue Freeman's lindy hop classes in Sheffield. Balboa and Collegiate S**g followed a couple of years later. Since teaming up with Hannah in 2016, she has enjoyed developing her rhythm and connection to her dance partner, as well as bringing more joy and play into her dancing, trying to make each dance the most fun it can be with that dance partner. Ali loves the energy and exuberance of collegiate s**g and had enjoyed learning from many teachers who have each brought a different focus and style to this wonderful dance.

Sheffield Shuffle 22-24th March 2024: We’re Switching It Up!

We’re so excited to announce a big change for the Sheffield Shuffle this year; we’re going beyond leading and following! The Lindy Hop streams won’t have the option to sign up as a lead or follow, just as a dancer. We’ll be doing some switch dancing, focusing on the connection to your partner and the music and dancing beyond a role! Our wonderful teachers (soon to be announced) will make sure everyone feels welcome and engaged, whether you’re a seasoned switch dancer or it’s your first time stepping out of your normal role.

Alongside our “beyond lead and follow” streams we’ll also be having a s**g stream (taught with leads and follows)

On Sunday we’ll have a mix of workshops sticking with the “switching it up them 👀

You can put everything you’ve learnt into practice at our three socials with two bands over the weekend

If you aren’t already, click “interested” or “going” on our Facebook event page to stay up to date on the announcements about teachers, tickets and hosting coming soon!
