👾 👾 👾 The students behind Project Pixel are developing video games to raise vital funds for UK charities.

Over 25 students from various degree programmes have joined the project, which is believed to be the biggest team of students producing video games at any UK university.

The team had no previous experience in video game production, but they are using their passion and skills gained from their degree to learn how to develop 2D mobile games.

Kes recognised as British classic and landmark in world cinema 09/05/2024

Ken Loach's 1969 drama ‘Kes’ has been recognised as a British classic and a landmark in world cinema. 📽

In his new book, David Forrest, Professor in Film and Television Studies at The University of Sheffield, celebrates the lasting legacy of the film and the important role it played in giving young, working class people a voice.

The book, published by the British Film Institute, shines a spotlight on how Kes is a key resource for understanding post-industrial Britain and the current politics in the North of England.

Today, we’re celebrating the contribution international students make to our culture, society, health and lives after they graduate!

Whether that’s exploring more sustainable ways to grow food locally, testing innovations which help to heal wounds, advising others about their study options or even teaching students themselves, the opportunity to work in the UK after studying is transforming their lives and having a positive impact on the lives of others.

We’re sharing the stories of four of our international student graduates below.

International students and graduates make a huge contribution to regions across the UK.

Here in Sheffield, they are warmly welcomed by our local communities, who recognise the positive social, cultural and economic impact they have on our city.

International students in Sheffield are active in the community – volunteering for charities and causes and supporting our shops, restaurants and businesses. When they graduate, some choose to make Sheffield their home for longer, work here and help to fill vital skills gaps across a range of sectors and in the NHS.

Last year, leaders and politicians from across Sheffield signed a statement pledging their support for international students and the positive difference they make to our city and region, including Paul Blomfield MP, Olivia Blake MP, Louise Haigh MP, Clive Betts, Gill Furniss MP, Sheffield City Council leader Tom Hunt, Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, The Sheffield College and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are proud that students from around the world choose to study, live and work in our fantastic city. We are grateful for everything they bring to Sheffield and we continue to welcome them
