Dear Friend,
As we bid farewell to another year filled with melodies, crescendos, and shared musical moments, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for being a part of our vibrant musical family. Whether you're a seasoned member, a newcomer, or a supporter from afar, your presence and passion have made this year truly special.
Some of the year’s highlights included:
Full orchestra performance at globalFEST at Lincoln Center - David Geffen Hall.
Music recording for newly released video game, Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.
Performance at the Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Nakba at the United Nations Assembly Hall.
Performance at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council 22nd annual River to River Festival.
Performance at Wolf Trap in Washington, DC, sponsored by the Middle East Institute and Abu Dhabi Festival.
We are going into 2024 with great momentum. We need your support to keep that momentum going. Can I count on you to join me and the many friends of the NYAO who made a tax-deductible donation?
Your donation, no matter the size, will make a significant impact in helping us share the beauty of Arabic music with the world. We greatly appreciate your consideration and hope to count on your support.

The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council presents 'Al Qalam: Poets in the Park,' featuring reciters, Hani Bawardi and Rita Elojail Zihenni, to celebrate the literary contributions of the early Arabic-speaking community in Lower Manhattan. Predominantly Syrian and Lebanese, these early writers formed a literary association called al Rabitah al Qalamiyah (the Pen Bond), among whose founders was famed author, poet and artist Kahlil Gibran. The New York Arabic Orchestra trio will weave classical Arabic music with the poetry readings, using traditional musical instruments, oud, violin and percussion (tabla and riqq).
Presented in partnership with Washington Street Historical Society and The Battery Conservancy.

Watch the recording of the Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Nakba at the United Nations
Special Commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Nakba The Nakba is a tragic historical moment in 1948 when a significant number of Palestinians were displaced almost overnight, leading to the dispossession, displacement, and denial of their inalienable rights that continue to this day.
The New York Arabic Orchestra is proud to announce our upcoming performance on May 15 for the Commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the NAKBA at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

**YEAR IN REVIEW **
Dear Friend,
2022 was a busy year for the New York Arabic Orchestra. With the pandemic in the rearview mirror, we started the year with going back to live rehearsals and recordings under the leadership of artistic director Layth Sidiq. Some of the year’s highlights included:
· Recording new songs and video promotional material for the NYAO
· Redesigning and overhauling our website
· Being awarded a grant from the NY Community Trust
· Electing a new Chair (Mohannad Aama), and appointing a dedicated Executive Director (Lena Alwari)
· Appointing April Centrone as Creative Director and director of our educational programs
· Performing at events hosted by, or partnering with, Center for Arab American Philanthropy (CAAP), Qatar America Institute, American University of Beirut, Palestinian American Community Center, and others
· Performing educational workshops at different schools in the tri-state area
As excited as we are about the progress we made in 2022, we are more excited about the year to come. The full orchestra will be performing at globalFEST, at Lincoln Center on January 15, 2023. globalFEST is one of the most dynamic global music platforms in North America.
We are also working on launching new and expanded educational programs, both online and in-person, as well as working on several educational and artistic events for National Arab American Heritage Month in April. We are also working on a major performance in New York City in the Fall. We will announce more details once everything is finalized.
We are going into 2023 with great momentum.
Donations can be made with a credit card or Paypal. You can also use Venmo

Happy Holidays from all of us at the NEW YORK ARABIC ORCHESTRA!
December 4, 2022 - - two years later and missed beyond words
Today we remember the NYAO's co-founder, leader and driving artistic force, the beloved Bassam Saba. Bassam is terribly missed by his close family, his large musical family and by all those whose lives he impacted as a teacher, instrumentalist, maestro, dear friend, and unifying force.
Those in the NYAO and around the globe who had the opportunity to work with Bassam are forever touched by his music, his performances, his compositions, and his kind, creative spirit.Bassam’s mission and vision to preserve and promote classical Arabic music are stronger than ever and the NYAO continues to build upon his artistic legacy and musical contributions. Bassam spoke a universal language that strikes a chord deep in our hearts. We are forever grateful for his devotion and commitment.
To Bassam’s family Diala, Mariana, and his family in Lebanon, you will always have a special place in our hearts and we continue to stand by you with our support. Today and always we remember Bassam for his special character, laughter, and love.
Don't miss your chance to pay tribute to Bassam Saba....
"Bassam's friends and students gather for an evening of music and memory to honor the master. We will perform selections from Bassam's compositions alongside music from Iraq and a long suite from Mohamad Abdel Wahab and Oum Kalthoum. Zach Fredman oud, Marandi Hostetter, Insia Malik, Megan Gould violins, Gideon Forbes nay, Philip Mayer percussion, Sprocket Royer upright bass, with Zahra al Zubaidi voice."
