ചലനമറ്റു കിടക്കയിലായ മകളെയൊന്ന് എഴുന്നേൽപിച്ചു നിർത്താനായിരുന്നു രജിതയുടെ പോരാട്ടം. മകൾ കണ്ണുതുറന്ന് തന്നെയൊന്നു നോക്കുന്നതു കാണാൻ, കടം വാങ്ങിയും വിറ്റുപെറുക്കിയും ആ അമ്മ കാത്തിരുന്നു. എന്നാലിന്ന് രജിത തിരുവനന്തപുരം അനന്തപുരി ആശുപത്രിയിൽ സ്വന്തം ജീവനുവേണ്ടി പോരാടുകയാണ്. രജിതയുടെ മകളാണ് കേരളത്തിന്റെയാകെ ദുഃഖമായി മാറിയ ദേവുചന്ദന. മകളുടെ രോഗാവസ്ഥയിൽ മനംനൊന്ത് രജിതയുടെ ഭർത്താവ് ബി. ചന്ദ്രബാബു ആശുപത്രിവളപ്പിൽ ജീവനൊടുക്കിയിരുന്നു.
