Happy World Youth Skills Day! At Nuffic, we believe that building an equitable and inclusive future will foster peace, global citizenship, and sustainable development.
Youth hold the power to shape the future of sustainable communities worldwide, and are willing to do so. According to the Youth Employment Index of 2024, 7 out of 10 young people want to pursue a green career, but face continued barriers such as lack of skills education and misinformation. By enhancing access to skills education through our programmes such as Erasmus+. Erasmus+ does not only create long-lasting memories and friendships, but also contributes to developing a wide range of skills. Participants of the programme develop their soft skills and their language skills, which are useful during their studies, but also during their career. Through working on programmes like Erasmus+, we aim to empower youth to achieve their fullest potential and drive global growth.

Yesterday, we met 70 Orange Knowledge Scholarship holders during their MBA course at Business School Netherlands in Buren. We encountered impressive changemakers full of energy and passion, ready to elevate their communities to the next level. These scholarship holders dream big, share knowledge, and take action through their companies and organisations: from supporting youth businesses in Iraq, to encouraging schoolchildren to interact with microfarms in Indonesia, upcycling waste in Ghana, and helping indigenous communities and women thrive with food security initiatives.
We loved listening to countless stories of resilience and inspiration and look forward to sharing these stories with you soon.

One of the themes we focus on in Benin Republic is Sexual Health and Reproductive Rights. Can you imagine the importance of having access to accurate information in the lives of young students?
From 2019 to 2021, a Tailor-Made Training of the Orange Knowledge Programme was conducted by the Université de Parakou in collaboration with the Dutch institution CINOP. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among students in the northern part of Benin on topics related to sexual and reproductive health. Through a cascading approach to training trainers, many young people were impacted. It was a pleasure for us to meet with some young leaders from Mathieu BOUKE Secondary school, who benefited from this training, during our impact assessment visit. One of the young leaders stated: "The training I received has changed my life. I see many things differently, I advise my younger brothers on the right behaviors in sexual health and reproductive rights, and I assure you, we face many issues in the school environment." What could be more beautiful and poignant than hearing such a testimony? Access to accurate information can change everything, and this is what we believe in at Nuffic.
The Orange Knowledge Programme is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken) and is Managed by Nuffic.

Education opens minds. More than ever, we believe in our mission to make the development of international skills possible for everyone and to work together to meet the great challenges of our time.
2023 was a year full of wonderful initiatives in and around education. From citizenship to global citizenship, a place in the curriculum for international skills in executive professions, international exchange in higher education, and intensive cooperation between countries in the European context and worldwide. In 2024 we will continue doing this together!
A subtle breeze of change is weaving through the world, including the knowledge landscape. As the Orange Knowledge Programme is officially ending in 2024, there will be no new application rounds for 2024. However, the new year will bring new opportunities for other programmes like the MENA Scholarship Programme and NL Scholarship Programme. We are committed to continue our work on education in which everyone can develop skills to engage globally and across borders with an open mind. We encourage everyone to invest in this, to collaborate, and to continue doing so. Working together will make us stronger.
We wish you happy holidays and a very healthy and happy 2024! We are looking forward to collaborating with you in the new year.
In celebration of Women Entrepreneurship Day we would like you to meet alumna Ayoola Adetutu Oloruntola from Nigeria. Ayoola holds a master’s degree in Petrolium Engineering, but realised during her studies that she is passionate about empowering women and youth.
“I joined a small NGO that supports the empowerment of women and girls through educational programmes focusing on social inclusion and entrepreneurship. At my NGO I was mentored by an OKP alumna who told me how the Orange Knowledge Programme could help me as a professional and enlarge my ability to make an impact for women and girls in Nigeria. I applied and got the opportunity to attend the short course ‘Women and Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Policy’ at Maastricht University.
Nigeria is a patriarchal society. In some regions, women do not work and are fully dependent on men for their basic needs. After my OKP Short Course, I realised that we need to encourage women for entrepreneurship in order to become self-reliant. In my outreach, I talk to women about their challenges and support them by turning opportunities into sustainable businesses and teach them how to become self-reliant.
Because of the Orange Knowledge Programme, I am now able to more effectively support my community. I lean on what I learned at Maastricht University, especially from their ongoing facilitation after the course. I also keep in touch with other alumni and we continue to learn from each other and each other’s challenges.
In the end, it’s about everyone being better. Although I joined this course to support women and youth in Nigeria by encouraging women entrepreneurship. But I feel like I even got more confident since I have done the course. I also got empowered! Now, I feel that I can really educate people in Nigeria.”

Empowering local organisations and institutions with the knowledge and skills needed to craft successful fundraising proposals is important, especially in the face of social and economic development. This is why HOPES-LEB organised the workshop "Training on Proposal Writing" in Lebanon.
We were glad to be a part of this with our local Nuffic representatives in Lebanon. It was truly inspiring to see individuals and groups from our community come together to learn, share ideas, and build a brighter future. 🌈✨
