16/03/2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Mona Liza Adviento-Maghanoy. She joined our Creator on March 15, 2024.

Mona was the embodiment of our ideals of leadership, friendship, and service. She had been a constant source of pride of our sorority and a most reliable sister.

Always been an intellectual and a natural athlete, Sis Mona earned her Bachelor of Sports Science from UP Diliman. Later on, she also became a licensed nurse, earning her degree from Southeast Asian College.

She had always loved the pursuit of learning and thus, she also obtained her Masteral in Clinical Psychology from UP Diliman. She also endeavored into teaching and being active in the academe at UP Diliman - her beloved institution where she always felt at home - and eventually became Assistant Professor in the Sports Science Department at the College of Human Kinetics. She was a one-of-a-kind teacher, inside and outside the classrom, and her students and colleagues will attest to that. Her passion for learning and teaching shone through her.

She was also the Acting Chairperson of the UP Varsity Sports Program and the Assistant Director in the Varsity Sports Office from 2020 to 2023.

Sis Mona lived a life doing things she love the most. She had been active in numerous organizations, with each one getting much effort and time from her. She never fell short of her duty, and she was always, always very helpful, vibrant, and kind.

Alpha Phi Omega was fortunate to have her as a sister. She contributed much to the organization, from the time she joined until the end of her life. She served as Grand Lady Chancellor for Alpha Phi Omega Sorority - Eta Chapter in 2003. She was also a founding Board of Trustee member of APO ETA Alumni Association (AA) and fulfilled the role of AAโ€™s First Treasurer from 2015 to 2016.

Believing in the potential
of youth and the ideals of our sorority, she devoted time serving as a Faculty Adviser for the residents, notwithstanding her busy schedule.

Mona always had a smile
on her face. She had the capacity to light up
one's day with her smiling, chinky eyes, witty humor, and sincere heart. She was a friend to each and every one alike - her contemporaries, the younger ones, and the older ones. She had time for every one. Those who love her only wish they had more time with her.

Nevertheless, she will be forever etched in the minds and memories of those she shared her vibrant life with. Sis Mona will be dearly missed but surely will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

For those who wish to pay respects, details of her wake are as follows:

Since 1972, the UP Alpha Phi Omega Sorority - Eta Chapter has long been committed to championing women's empowerment. This year, we stand in solidarity with International Womenโ€™s Day's call to since we believe that inclusivity is truly a catalyst in creating more spaces for women to thrive and to be heard.

Ang sigaw ng bayan โ€“ Never Forget, Never Again. Never Again to Martial Law!

On its 6th year, the Alpha Phi Omega Sorority ETA Alumnae Association (APOSETAAA) in partnership with the Maynilad Water Services Plant, along with the Alpha Phi Omega Sorority - Eta Chapter, Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity - Eta Chapter, volunteers, Bantay Gubat, and Ipo Tree Planters held APO Para Sa Ipoโ€”a tree planting at Ipo Dam and gift-giving to the community at Sapang Munti, Norzagaray, Bulacan last July 23, 2023.

The APOSETAAA donated a total of P25,000 to the SEC registered people's organization called the Ipo Tree Planters with members from the Dumagat indigenous people's of Sapang Munti. In addition, 12 solar flood lights were turned over to the community so that they will have light in their area.

After overcoming eight (8) rivers' stones and undercurrents along with hours of trekking, the tree planting activity commenced to ensure that there will be enough trees present in the community as the Ipo Watershed is the vital link to the Angat-Ipo Watershed system which supplies around 97% of the water needs in Metro Manila. Around 400 Dungon trees were planted as part of the project. Indeed, it was a success!

The Alpha Phi Omega Sorority - Eta Chapter is beyond grateful for the invaluable contributions and support of our dedicated volunteers and esteemed donors. With the support and effort given by each one, APO Para sa Ipo Project has achieved another remarkable milestone. We sincerely hope to count on your continued support in future endeavors as we work together for a more sustainable and nurturing future.

In the spirit of Leadership, Friendship, and Service, may we always be! โšœ
