The NDP pack is one of the things that NDP goers look forward to and this year, our very own Lin Chunru got to make her mark on the popular item! Collaborating with five other artists with disabilities and a SG Enable Enabling Volunteer, the team created 'Blooming Singapore', inspired by Singapore's National Flower the Vanda Miss Joaquim.
Blooming Singapore is one of four designs for this year's NDP packs. A heart-shaped centre connects the petals, each representing a unique facet of Singapore - from the rich food culture to the iconic landmarks.
Chunru drew a face for the pack. βThe face represents all Singaporeans. I wish to highlight that regardless of disabilities, everyone has their own talents and strengths. The eyes represent the different races of Singaporeans, the lips represent the Singapore flag, the hearts on the cheeks represent our love for Singapore and the lines in between is symbolic of the beautiful fireworks we see during the National Day Parade every year.β
Thank you SG Enable and NDP 2023 for this wonderful opportunity, and great job, Chunru, for making us proud! π
Every fortnight, our Adult Enhancement Programme (AEP) learners would go on various trips around Singapore for their Community Integration (CI) module.
CI is one of the many domains taught in AEP to encourage our adult learners to immerse themselves in activities in the community. Twice a month, our learners will travel on public transport eg. the MRT and/or bus, have their meals in a food court and have the opportunity to interact with people in the community. These outings instill independent living skills and build their self-confidence.
In one of these trips, they headed down to one of the most iconic places - the Singapore Changi Airport!

It was such a joy reuniting with our friends and forming new connections with the staff from Indeed. We are so proud of our adult learners from Adult Enhancement Program (AEP) who opened up and shared about their work experiences and dream jobs with their buddies from Indeed. Some of them even went a step ahead to craft a resume and learnt how to search for jobs on Indeed site with the guidance from their buddies.
A huge thank you to Katie for organising this fantastic get together, and to all the Indeedians who welcomed us with open arms and caring hearts.
Last Saturday, our new friends from Project Stories For Life brought us on an engaging adventure learning about the story of Redhill through shadow puppets. Learning with friends is a joy! π€©
Last Saturday, FSS organised a chocolate decoration workshop for our families. Parents and children had a fun time creating their own chocolate masterpieces. Nothing better than a family bonding activity over a sweet treat π«
FSS has lined up a series of activities for all our families. We look forward to many more fun-filled weekends with all of you.

After a three-year hiatus from physical celebrations, DSA commemorated its 18th edition of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) with more than 400 participants on 18 March 2023. The celebration commenced with a community walk around Bishan -Ang Mo Kio Park, flagged off by our Guest of Honour, Mr. Eric Chua and DSA Chairperson, Mr. Alex Yan. 53 performers across five enrichment groups, Aikido, Dance, Drums, Speech & Drama and Zumba put together various performance items. The highlight of the stage performances is when friends, family and participants cheered on each performer and participated in the performances. We would also like to thank our Guest of Honor, Mr Eric Chua for enthusiastically leading an impromptu drumming engagement with our drummers.
Thanks to the generous support of our community, we've already raised 70% of our goal of $200,000. We need your help to reach the remaining 30%. Your gift of any amount will be eligible for a matching grant of up to $250,000 from Toteboard and all donations will be entitled to a 250% tax deduction.
With access to training, our beneficiaries can attain the needed skills through our Work Readiness Assisted Programme (WRAP), bringing them one step closer to attaining an opportunity for supported and open employment.

It's World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) today!
WDSD is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD being the 21st day of March, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
Close to 500 people gathered at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park last Saturday to walk with one collective mission β to raise awareness and promote inclusion, diversity, and acceptance of persons with Down syndrome in our communities and in our lives. Thank you SPS Eric Chua .sg for joining us in our mission and celebrating individuals with Down syndrome and their families!
For those of you who didn't managed to join us at the event, you can still support by making a donation at: https://www.giving.sg/down-syndrome-association/wdsd2023. Funds raised will will go towards DSAβs Work Readiness Program which equips our adult learners with basic life skills and functional skills to help them attain their full potential and enable them to participate as fully as possible.
