A dialogue session with seniors was held at CFS on Monday, 23 Oct where MOM shared the key considerations and recommendations by the Tripartite Committee on Workplace Fairness for the Workplace Fairness Legislation (WFL). The panelists at the session were SMS Dr Koh Poh Koon, NTUC Deputy SG, Ms Cham Hui Fong and CFS Executive Director, Ms Lim Sia Hoe. Addressing the seniors, SMS Koh said that the Legislation will protect workers against common and familiar forms of workplace discrimination, including ageism. WFL is a significant step in building fairer and more harmonious workplaces, and will send a strong signal that there is no place for workplace discrimination for all stages of employment (pre-employment, in-employment and end-employment) in Singapore. More information on the Tripartite Committee's recommendations can be found at go.gov.sg/wflreport

CFS launched Silver@Work - a micro-jobs scheme with its partners Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC) on 14 August. Guest of Honour Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, officiated the launch at THKMC's National Day Celebration at their AAC @ Bedok.

Silver@Work is a programme for seniors to take up meaningful jobs and to live life with purpose. CFS kicked start the programme with THKMC where active seniors in THKMC Active Ageing Centres (AAC) help other seniors in the community by taking up micro-jobs within short walking distance from their home such as meals delivery or carrying out medication reminder to fellow seniors in their community, and be paid an allowance for every task delivered.

The micro-jobs scheme will enable seniors to keep fit and active while carrying out the tasks. They will also be able to interact with and keep an eye out for fellow seniors as they go around the community. Doing so will empower them to further enhance their sense of purpose and meaning.

CFS hopes to expand the programme to other AACS across Singapore as well as to hiring employers who are interested to offer meaningful jobs to active seniors.

If you are interested to be a part of Silver@Work, please email to: [email protected]
