✨ Once Upon a Full Moon 2024 has left a lasting imprint on our hearts! 🌕 We are deeply grateful to the over 2,100 extraordinary audience members who joined us for three unforgettable nights, culminating in a sold-out Saturday show! 🎉 Together, we shared the transformative power of music with our partners, beneficiaries, and supporters. Your enthusiasm and encouragement have fueled our passion like never before.

In honor of TENG’s 20th anniversary, this concert was more than a performance - it was a journey through time and sound. A special mention goes to our Mapletree-TENG scholars, Clarissa and Claudia, who graced the stage with their incredible performances. Their talent and dedication were a highlight of the evening, showing the bright future of Singaporean music.

A heartfelt shout-out to the brilliant Charlie Lim for his unforgettable collaboration with The TENG Ensemble, adding another layer of magic over the three concerts! 🎤✨

Throwback to a memorable evening last Thursday, where we had the privilege of performing at the opening reception of ‘As One Thing Flows To Another’ exhibition by The Private Museum. TENG is also incredibly proud to also have our works showcased as part of the exhibition. 💫

✨ Our performance featured the premiere of four new works titled “八雅 (Ba Ya) The Eight Graces”, each inspired by one of the Eight Graces within Chinese culture: music, chess, calligraphy, painting, poetry, wine, flowers, and tea, composed by our Composer-in-Residence Chow Junyi. These pieces are a celebration of the unique characteristics of each Grace, expressed through a thoughtful fusion of contemporary and traditional performance styles.

The Eight Graces series draws inspiration from the ancient musical traditions and iconic of the Guqin (古琴), an instrument that embodies the essence of traditional Chinese musical aesthetics. The series took inspiration from iconic Guqin music namely: 水云 (Water and Clouds), reflecting the Grace of 琴 Qin (Playing the Guqin), 逐风 (Chasing the Wind), embodying the Grace of 棋 Qi (Playing Go), 山月 (Mountain Moon), capturing the Grace of 书 Shu (Calligraphy), 镜花水月 (Mirror Flowers and Water Moon), representing the Grace of 画 Hua (Painting). Each piece reimagines these timeless Graces with a modern sensibility, while honouring the deep cultural significance of the Guqin.

🇸🇬 This special occasion also marked an important milestone for us as we celebrate TENG’s 20th anniversary. For two decades, we have been committed to honouring Singapore’s unique heritage by reimagining our culture, traditions, and history through an East-meets-West lens. This performance, in the context of this meaningful exhibition, encapsulates our mission to bridge the traditional and the contemporary through music. 🎶

The exhibition runs till 22 September 2024 at The Private Museum — don’t miss it! 🖼️
