We lament the recent oil spill that released 400 tonnes of fuel into the sea. However, it is heartening to witness the swift responses from both authorities and volunteers in containing the environmental damage. Caritas Singapore has also extended its support and remains committed to assisting in any way possible.
The oil spill is likely to have severe negative impacts on marine life and the environment. This serves as a reminder of our responsibility to be better stewards of the environmentโa precious gift from God. Let us each explore how we can contribute and remain steadfast in our efforts. Together, we can be a force of good in our society.
Let us keep all staff, contract workers, and volunteers involved in these efforts in our prayers, asking for their protection from harm. May our coasts and marine life soon return to good health.
What does it mean when the Church says work has dignity? Why is it a problem when managers micromanage their staff? Why do persons with and without intellectual disabilities have equal dignity? What is the problem with both capitalism and communism? What is our duty to the poor and the environment? Why does the Church prefer democracy? What does the Church have to say about world peace?
Jesus challenges us in the gospel to interpret the signs of the times. Come and turn to the Churchโs social teachings so we can obtain the tools to think about the social issues of our time!

โI donโt have to send my son to Boysโ Town anymore. I can take care of my son now.โ
Boysโ Town provided an opportunity for one of their residential youth to develop himself, one that he seized. And now, more than 15 years later, he is fully able to provide and care for a family of his own.
It is committed to serving children and youth coming from disadvantaged and disengaged families who may have faced hardship due to difficult home situations, financial struggles, abandonment, and abuse.
Boysโ Town equips children and youth in need with skills to become socially integrated, responsible and contributing members of society. It is also part of our Caritas Singapore Family, committed to our broader social mission. Discover more about our impactful work at www.caritas-singapore.org

The Pope said, "The world sings of an infinite Love: how can we fail to care for it?" (LD 65). His encyclical Laudato Si' calls for everyone to engage in dialogue about the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor, and how best to address the global issues we face.
As one church, let us continue the conversation, act as a community of faith, and nurture a seed of hope that can transform our world into a better place.
