Nanyang Polytechnic
Welcome to Nanyang Polytechnic's official page.
It’s been 3 months since the official launch of Adopt a Block! Besides regular visits to our residents, here’s what we’ve been up to:
🌳In Aug, we invited residents from Teck Ghee over to our campus to visit ’s greenhouse to learn how innovation helps to increase stable yield in vegetable production. Everyone got to go home with some bokchoy! 🌱
🌳In Sept, we went on a learning journey to to explore their innovative bio-digester and observe how it turned food waste into fertiliser. Did you know that we have our very own bio-digester located at FoodConnect?
There’s something exciting coming up in Nov (hint: everyone loves free stuff 🤸🤸🤸)
Drop off your old clothes, shoes, or a couple of tote bags (from the huge stash we know you have at home 👀) at the freecycling booth outside Koufu so you can give them a new lease of life in another home 💟
Huge congrats to Caleb from the Diploma in Advanced & Digital Manufacturing for clinching 2nd place out of 30 competitors in the tertiary category of the 3D Printing Drone Airframe Cover Competition! 🎉
Caleb’s design was a perfect blend of form and function. He skillfully applied what he learned in class to create a lightweight yet durable airframe cover, designed to withstand the rigours of flight while offering top-notch protection for the drone’s delicate components. 💡
We’re so proud of Caleb for this outstanding outachievement!

Four students from the Diploma in Applied AI & Analytics clinched the championship at the PSA Code Sprint Competition 2024!
And they were the only poly team among the top 8 finalists! 🥳
The annual hackathon provides participants with the opportunity to tackle complex challenges in PSA’s automated mega port and its global supply chain and logistics ecosystem.
Leveraging their AI and analytics knowledge and skills acquired in school, developed a pathfinding algorithm for dynamic routing of vehicles in the container port, based on weather, traffic, and prioritisation data.
This innovative approach aims to reduce carbon footprint, aligning with the sustainability theme while addressing a genuine problem faced by the operators. 👏
Heard of Adopt a Block? In July 2024, NYP adopted 3 residential blocks in Teck Ghee, connecting with the community through learning journeys and door-to-door visits to inspire sustainable habits 🌱💡
Meet Quan Yao, Vice President of and overall-in-charge of Adopt a Block! With his Geo Council EXCOs and student advisor, Quan Yao brainstorms for creative and fun monthly activities for the residents.
A true advocate for sustainability, Quan Yao is especially passionate about freecycling ♻️ He took part in the YES Leaders Programme, where he spearheaded a project to make freecycling more accessible. Check out NYP’s first-ever Textile Freecycle Bin at Block A, FoodCentral!
Our 2nd year Diploma in Social Work student leaders from the Social Work Associates Network for Students (SWANS) co-organised a heartwarming Mid-Autumn Carnival for 45 seniors in the West Coast area! 🎉
In collaboration with NYP Students’ Union, Hey! You Got Mail, and SASCO Active Ageing Centre, the event aimed to foster intergenerational bonds in the community and reduce social isolation among seniors.
Participants enjoyed traditional games like five stones and a lantern-making session alongside . 🏮
The carnival wrapped up beautifully with seniors proudly carrying their handmade lanterns for a scenic evening walk around the neighborhood, accompanied by their youth buddies.
Huge congrats to Crit Survivors, our talented students from School of Design & Media - NYP SG Diploma in Architecture, for taking home the grand prize at the finale of SDG Open Hack! 🌱🌎
Their winning project, based on UNSDG 9 (empowering industry, innovation and infrastructure), aims to uplift living conditions in slum areas through building modular homes from mycelium bricks, one house at a time 🛖
Why mycelium? This fascinating root-like structure in fungi is strong yet lightweight, biodegradable and offers excellent insulation! 🍄🍄🍄
