Living in an urban city, it’s easy to overlook the issues that threaten biodiversity and wildlife in Singapore. But three passionate NUS student groups have stepped up to bridge this awareness gap with some interesting initiatives!

To share about Singapore’s rich biodiversity, BES Drongos and EVBig (an interest group under NUS Life Sciences Society) are leading the charge by organising and conducting a variety of nature walks for members of the public. From intertidal to night walks, participants get to catch a glimpse of the interesting marine and wildlife our tiny red dot has to offer!

As for NUS Bitscraps, true to its mission of “repair before replace”, the student group aims to equip members with hands-on skills to repair electronics in a bid to help to reduce waste and promote a more sustainable way of life!

Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Koh Poh Koon was the special guest at a recent tour of the NUS Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed (STDCT)!

Read more in !

Did you know that Singapore is home to the world’s first data centre testbed set in a tropical climate?

I went on an interesting tour of the Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed (STDCT) at NUS with members of the public yesterday. The event was organised in support of .

Data centres (DCs) play a key role in Singapore’s transformation into a digital economy. However, in our hot and humid environment, operating a DC is much more energy-intensive as cooling systems will have to work harder to offset larger amounts of heat.
STDCT is an example of how collaborations among academic and industry partners can help develop solutions to achieve a digital and green economy. It was eye-opening seeing the innovative cooling technologies developed by STDCT to help DCs operate more efficiently and sustainably in our local climate.
