Albany seeks to overhaul cannabis zoning 08/23/2023

The City has proposed revisions to zoning and operating regulations for cannabis related issues. Retail shops would be treated more like liquor stores and consumption lounges would be treated like bars. A full Common Council vote is expected in the fall. Read more in the Times-Union article below.

Please be advised that beginning Monday, August 21, 2023 through Wednesday, August 23, 2023 road work will begin on Lark Street between Washington Avenue and Lancaster Street from 3:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

On Thursday, August 24, 2023 through Monday, August 28, 2023 road work will continue on Lark Street between Madison Avenue and Lancaster Street from 3:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Motorists should expect delays in these areas as well as any side streets east and west of Lark Street and if possible should seek alternate routes.

The City of Albany has completed the Final Draft of the South End Strategic Plan, and is seeking public feedback through a Survey (https://form.jotform.com/231506277998167) with a deadline that has been extended to Sunday, September 3. The Plan, overseen by the Department of Planning, was conducted with extensive input from South End community groups, non-profits, businesses and individuals. The Plan includes recommendations for how City residents can stabilize, energize and grow the community.

A project adding public amenities to the South End Connector Trail is scheduled to begin construction the week of July 17. The project, designed after extensive public input, activates a half-mile portion of the multi-use Trail that runs underneath I-787 adjoining the South End Neighborhood, and will include an outdoor gym, basketball area, children’s cycle track, and space for food trucks and community pop-up events. Bike to Work Day was a day to celebrate all the good things that are happening to make Albany more bikable and walkable: CDPHP Cycle's bikeshare (with electric bikes this year!), the South End Connector, traffic calming in the South End and West Hill, the City of Albany Department of Recreation's Playstreets, the Skyway, Clinton Market, the Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail Summer Festival, the Empire State Trail, and more. Capital Streets, with the support of the City of Albany and other sponsors such as the Capital Region Transportation Council - formerly CDTC, is holding events around Bike to Work Day this Thursday, June 29.

They are inviting bicyclists of all levels and experience to come celebrate bicycling as a fun, healthy way to commute and an activity for making friends and exploring our neighborhoods.

Morning Commute Welcome Table: Stop by our Welcome Table in Tricentennial Square Park from 7:30 AM to 1 PM. Refreshments provided by Stacks Espresso Bar.

After Work Ride & Happy Hour with : Meet @ Washington Park Playhouse (6-6:30), Ride Departs at 6:30 PM.

This is a casual ride! The ride will move slowly and be no more than 10-miles to accommodate riders of all skill levels. We will ride on the new Albany Skyway and South End Connector trails, ending at a TBD location in Downtown Albany. All City offices at 200 Henry Johnson Blvd. will be closed all day Wednesday, June 14, for a staff safety training. The building includes the Departments of Buildings & Regulatory Compliance, Housing & Community Development, Planning & Development, and Neighborhood Services. The building is normally open Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.

Bike to Work Day, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, June 8, HAS BEEN POSTPONED because of the air quality alert in the area. The Day, and its many events, will be rescheduled sometime in late June.

A public meeting for the Brevator Street Improvement Project is being held this Tuesday, May 16, from 6-7:30 pm at the All Saints Catholic Academy at 10 Rosemont St. The Project will transform a wide, car-oriented street into a multi-modal street that will be friendly to pedestrians, bicycle riders and bus riders.
