A suspect in an Albany shooting was stopped by New York State Troopers on the Thruway in the town of Sloatsburg on Wednesday afternoon and proceeded to shoot at and physically struggle with the Trooper. Another responding Trooper engaged and fired a fatal shot. Both Troopers were treated at a local hospital. We are thankful that our Troopers are alive and did not sustain life-threatening injuries during this critical incident. This is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by New York State Troopers every day. It also highlights the split-second decisions that Troopers must make in perilous situations. New York State Troopers risk their lives every time they put on their uniforms and face unpredictable situations in the name of public safety.
